They have horses outside the theatre that you can ride and it's very cheap and fun.

Police car.

These dudes are funny, we asked them if we can have our picture taken with them, they said sure but wait let's turn on the light on top of the car. Cops in Syria are feared but not respected, so whenever a civilian interacts with them in a nice way, they go the extra mile to make them happy and help them.

Wedding. More than 3000 attendees. Syrians love big weddings(speccially in southern Syria).

malek.........

"Great thread, great pics!

If i have an advice for you, try not to post too many pics in one post, pages get very heavy to load.

For those wondering why he is taking pics of so many trivial things for us westerners, that's because these things are fairly new over there. All these luxury cars, malls, atm machines, etc are very new.

I was there end of 2004, and coke and pepsi were still forbidden, you would have to get out of your way to ask for them. Parking meters didn't exist, and all these expensive cars were very rare. Brand name stores were also very limited to mostly some european brands. I think I saw one or two atm machines during my visit and very few stores took credit cards back then.

By the way, I notice that the streets in damascus are much cleaner than during my visit.

"Wow! What a thread.
Brings back good memories to our own visit to Syria earlier this year. But you show us unexpected and surprising places we didn't visit then.

Hello there,

Thank you so much for posting these pictures. I enjoyed looking at every single one of them. It is such a fascinating part of the globe that we, "in the west", often seldom get to see.

It makes me realise that, we are one planet and no matter from which continent we live on, we all have universal commonalities. ..and increasingly more so with globalisation.

I am interested to know about driving distances. How many kms long and wide is this country. What is the population of Damascus. What airline did you take to get there.

Nice to see that pic of those two soldiers also. Do you think they were lovers? Is it compulsary to be in the army for a year over there.

once again, thank you for taking the time to upload those great pictures.

You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed my tour.

The total area of Syria is about 185,000 squared kilometers or roughly the size of North Dakota. The total population is ~20 million.

The population of the capital city (Damascus) is about 4 million.

Most European airlines fly there regularly(Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, LOT polish, Aeroflot Russian, etc...) Syrian airlines connects to about 55 destinations worldwide. Almost all of arab countries airlines fly there also. Air India, Iran air have flights there too. I'm not sure about southeast asian airlines.

Syria has 3 International airports. (Damascus, Aleppo, Latakia)

I personally used Emirates airlines. I flew from JFK to Dubai nonstop and flew from Dubai to Damascus via Emirates also.

As far as driving within Syria, you have many options. Renting a car, hiring a rent car guy, taxis are cheap, buses, trains. Syrian Airlines flies to and from 4 cities within syria and very cheap. About $40 to fly from Damascus to Aleppo.

Landing in Damascus. This airport is in horrible condition and has been untouched since its inception back in the 50's or 60's
but lots of renovations are being done and a brand new state of the art 3rd terminal is under construction at the moment.
