Surface branchs of Seville's metro are so similar of the in Lille, for example. The only difference is the track, because Lille is a VAL, the rest is the same.

Where do Sevilla's metro pass in the middle of street? I still think you've seen Sevilla's tram, they both exist and are different lines.

well...
I have just come back from Spain and had a not very pleasant ride.
I am sorry that I didn't notice the "no photo" sign next to the fare board and the sign was way too small to warn people. I would say the was smaller than my thumb and with tons of other warning sign in a row.
I never used flash in the systems.
The only places that I was told not to take photos in a metro system was in China and Seville. No matters in Barcelona and Madrid when I was in Spain.
'Nicely', the staff in Seville sent me out of the station as well.
I am sorry I went to a place where I shouldn't be.
And I am not sure about how mystery this partly underground tramway system was.

I think the construction of any metro lines in Spain will stop for a while.
Only the Malaga new lines will be finished soon, i guess.

In Madrid and Barcelona something´s moving (very slowly though). In Valencia, Bilbao and Malaga too, but that´s not full metro strictly speaking.

That's true, but if you look at Madrid... they stopped after huge addition to the network. Only L9 will be built now, right?
In Barcelona the L9/L10 is slowing down and nowbody knows what will be with the airport and Zona Franca branches.
In Valencia the underground tram line in the city center looks like it stopped too.

Massive popular support for extending tramway to Santa Justa.

Wealthy people in Seville are rather anti-public transport.

News from Seville:

As construction of new metro lines is on hold due to lack of funding, the mayor of Seville is trying to push the construction of new tram lines.

There has been some controversy, as two of the projects actually follow the same route of planned metro line 2.

Consequently, it seems that said line would be definitely discarded if these new tram lines were to be built.

In my opinion, the city should fight to obtain the necessary funding from the regional government to build metro line 3, the one which will carry the highest number of passengers, and build only the first tram project.

Metro line 2 cannot be transformed into a simple tram line, as it will run through densely populated areas and connect key points of the city.

This is the planned metro network (only line 1 -green- is currently in service):

These are the proposed tram projects, ordered according to its likelihood of becoming a reality:

1) San Bernardo - Santa Justa:

This project will extend the existing tram line from San Bernardo station to Santa Justa station, the main railway station of Seville, where all HSR, regional and commuter services stop.

It will also give service to the Nervión business district and the FC Sevilla stadium.

http://www.diariodesevilla.es/articl...nta/justa.html

2) Santa Justa - Sevilla Este:

It follows the same route of the Eastern section of planned metro line 2, linking Santa Justa station with one of the most populated districts of the city.

http://www.diariodesevilla.es/articl...illa/este.html

3) Santa Justa - Plaza de Armas:

It follows the same route of the central section of planned metro line 2 through the old city. As most streets in that area are rather narrow, the tram line would have to be built single-tracked with passing loops at stops.

Seville does not have metro, the fact that underground sections of TRAM they call metro does not mean it is metro.

So in any case they are building tram.

So which words would you use to make clear you're talking about the existing short surface tram line or the 100% segregated line branded as metro (which is entirely underground within the city of Seville and elevated or at ground elsewhere)?

I mean, I know that technically speaking the current "metro" line cannot be considered a full metro because it uses light rail vehicles, but when trying to explain to the general public that one line (in this case, "metro" line 2) which was planned 100% underground is now probably going to be built above ground as a normal tram line, I think it's fair to use the terminology metro/tram in order to refer to the two different systems and describe the situation in a simple way.
