jewish-greek-italian-corean-arab-bolivian district of Bom Retiro in São Paulo Brasil - Street Level.

Hello folks, I present to you an ancient neighborhood of Bom Retiro, near downtown São Paulo. The district was born with italian immigrants in the beginning of 1900. During the first half of the twentieth century, started to come greeks, jewishes and arabs specially from Siria anda Lebanon. The jewishes and arabs opened most of fabrics and clothes stores and the place become a very popular destination for fabrics and clothes shops.

Many of them (arabs, jewish and italians too) became rich with these stores and moved to other neighborhoods and then, in the beginning of 80´s, coreans came to São Paulo and bought most of stores, changing the place´s face a lot, but there are many arabs, greek, jewish and italian descendents living over there yet.

With the fast Brazil´s economic growing, São Paulo has attracting many people from other neighbor countries, specially from poorest ones, so in the last years, many people from Bolivia arrived in São Paulo and went to work in Bom Retiro stores adding one more culture to this interesting place.

Today Bom Retiro is a very popular destination for shop cheap clothes in São Paulo attracting people from all over the country who travel in some cases thousands of kilometers to arrive there and buy many clothes by very low prices and re-sale in their cities.

The place is not sofisticated, but has much history and represents well how São Paulo is one of de most cosmopolitan cities in the world with so much human diversity.

I hope you enjoy!
