Do you think you know Brasília? Part I of II

Brasília is well known for its modernist monuments and large avenues but what you don't know (as well many brazilians) is that Brasília is much more than that.

Brasília's urban planer, Lúcio Costa, made Brasília's residential area, one of the most interesting area in the city.

For the ones who never had the chance to see Brasília far from the "Eixo Monumental" and how its inhabitants live, here's your chance. Hope you all enjoy the trip.

I like the plants and walkways. The buildings are kind of cool in some ways.

But that looks like a very suburban idea of multifamily. Very sterile and car-oriented.

Thanks for the comment.

Yes, Brasília is very car-oriented, but those areas are more walk friendly. There's a lot of street shoppings, restaurants, bakery, bar, etc.

And those pictures were taken on a sunday morning, so this is why i didn't get many people as i wanted.

I'd like to visit this planned city some day; what is the population?

The planned area has abou 300,000, but the 'metro area' has a lot more: about 2,500,000 (or even 3,500,000 considering the extended area).

Well, I love Brasilia. The city I was born and live.
It's just amazing to see how they built the city and how it's today.
'You may like Brasilia or not, but you can't say you've seen anything like it' as Architect Niemeyer said once.

I live just a few quarters ahead from where the pics where shot, and I can say they show a bit of 'brasilienses' lifestyle, but being here is very different!

ps.: cheers, afonso_bh! That's the Brasilia most don't know! Though it's the best part of it! Spot on!

It´s Brasília with "s" , not Brazília with "z".
