Yeah the "ghost cities" of China use to be a problem from around 2011 up until 2015. 2015 was when a lot of the ghost cities began to really fill up, thanks to massive upgrades in public transporation and infrastructure, particularly the Chinese National Highway system and the high-speed rail connecting almost all of the Chinese cities. Private companies are also gradually coming in to metro areas like Yujiapu Financial District.

In recent news, particularly if you guys search on Baidu (and can read Chinese Lol), these ghost cities are gradually growing in population, and China insists on not cancelling any megaprojects, especially with the One Belt, One Road Initiative that will expand Chinese infrastructure way beyond it's country borders. Metropolitan areas like the Yujiapu Financial District, which will include the Rose Rock IFC tower and many other buildings, are vital to China in terms of port cities. China has already committed millions of dollars to these places, so let's sit patiently and wait for the boom to come.

The only ghost cities that are still of concern are the bizarre European themed cities in China, such as the Thames city near Shanghai, that see a very little population growth rate.

Idk. A lot of Chinese I know have a few units, but are also massively in debt to the local banks.
