You mean the basement floors. If you look at the picture you posted, you can see the foundation well underway (there is rebar sticking out in many places of the picture).

Well it's tough to call the basement floors part of the tower itself, skyscrapers are above ground. "Foundations" include everything below ground. Maybe "below ground construction" would better express what I'm getting at.

The Port Authority was delayed in turning over those areas of the bathtub to Silverstein. The W and SW sections will begin later this year. The VSC ramps to the E and SE are progressing very rapidly.

This is going to pop up above the street and everyone is going to be like "Huh, what's this doing here? I thought the Freedom Tower was over there".

If you want to know why this building is going so much faster than FT just looking a number of people working in the pictures above. Compare that to the number of people you see working at FT and you quickly see why WTC4 is going so fast.

Of the 700+ construction workers at the WTC I think 1WTC and 4WTC have about the same amount of workers. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if 1WTC had more. 1WTC construction is slow because of the PATH tracks, and a very complex safety oriented (i.e. bomb proof bunker) design.

The real slow poke of the whole WTC site is the Deutsche Bank Building. 250 abatement workers there, double shifts, 6 days a week and no visible progress. Oh the PA has been saying the deconstruction will be visible soon... but that's been said for years.

at 975 feet this things going to be a beast in the skyline. (Well at less into tower 1 finish. Then it will look so small, you'll forget its over 900 feet tall). Not only that at its roof it will be the second tallest building in the city. No spires for this baby bump it up by 25 feet and will have a supertall.

I know most people here seem to have a problem with spires, but personally I wouldn't mind if they stuck a little spike on this thing's roof. :P

it's a good thing you're not the master architect then; that would look awful

Yeah, I agree. I think the tower is perfect in context with the others on the site. Tower 2 and 3 are the most architecturally impressive, but Tower 4 is more minimalist. It’s supposed to be the shortest of the 4 towers. It'll be a nice contrast, perfect for that corner of the site.
