I don't know if anyone noticed but if you look on the 2WFC KPI TV cam they have clearly started installing the black granite panels for the lobby walls!

That's what I though but it is true! It's even confirmed on the wtc.com March update

The site is more buzzing than it appears. Its great to see little progressions made like this so we can assure everyone's hard at work. Cant wait to see the insides of the new WTC.

WTC Construction Update, March 2012

4 World Trade Center

Structural steel is now above the 63rd floor with concrete is being poured above the 47th floor. The curtain wall installation, which began in late April, 2011, has reached the 43rd floor and the core bathroom program is underway. In the interior of 4 World Trade Center, the installations of both the lobby’s black granite and the elevator cabs have started. In addition, the fireproofing and masonry is advancing along with the building’s shaft work.

Great progress, even with only one crane on top.. though I hope they replace the second one in the near future to avoid any more delays

Why not start now. Better now then starting when the construction of the main structure is completed.

Probably the podium gets cladding soon as well, at least preparations for podium cladding have started some weeks ago. So I think it's reasonable to install the granite panels as long as they have better access to the lobby i.e. no glass cladding preventing big machines from entering the lobby

I love this tower. It's pure class.

Agreed! I think it's interesting how our impressions have slowly changed as it's gone up. This was originally hated because of the simplistic design, but now that we see it springing up, it's amazing! Truly is pure class, and an example of how conservatism can be a great thing.

Thought I should show everyone this! Although everyone thinks the economy sucks, many cities are starting construction comebacks in the US. And unsurprisingly NYC is #1 with 17.2 billion dollars in construction starts. That is about 7 billion dollars over #2 on the list, Dallas Fort Worth. Things are looking good for NYC!

Top of steel is at floor 55, El. 1,123'-8" or about 812' above Greenwich Street. Add 4' for splices.

I dislike this tower, not because of it's simplicity, but because of its irregular, random shape. I'd rather it be a box than have that slice taken out of it.

The slice makes the building.
