It looks pretty much completed now! I'm glad the design did not change for this tower.

That's the good part about minimalist designs - they're cheaper

This tower still cost $1.8 billion.

Actually 4WTC got taller. They added three additional office floors to it.

I thought it was always 975 feet (well they added two feet)

But taking away the spire and shortening 3WTC was a huge blow to the complex, which will still hopefully look OK when completed, just not as good as it could have.

Since 3 and 4 WTC are close in height now, and 2 and 1 WTC are also close in height, the spiral effect is somewhat lost (which isn't actually a terrible thing since it was stupid to begin with.)

Everyone always forgets 4WTC's height increase, since many people are automatically programmed to remember only negative things

The original design called for a 947' tall tower, so it's a 30' increase.

Fire Breaks Out at 4 World Trade Center

Quote:
DOWNTOWN — Firefighters battled a small blaze at 4 World Trade Center Tuesday morning, officials said.
The fire broke out on the eighth floor of the high-rise, which is under construction, just before 11:20 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
Firefighters brought the flames under control about 30 minutes later, the spokesman added.
No one was injured in the blaze, which a source said was "very minor."
Sources said there was no damage to the property and no one was evacuated from the building.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Silverstein Properties, the property's developer, did not immediately comment.
The blaze occurred just a little more than a week after a fire broke out at 1 World Trade Center.

"That's a bad omen," said a cop at the scene. "I'm not going in there. That's not good."
It was also the latest incident at 4 World Trade Center. In February, a load of steel beams fell 40 stories from the building, just a few months after a teenager suffered a minor injury when a four-foot rod fell from the building.
Other recent accidents at the World Trade Center include a worker who fell 20 feet from Silverstein's 3 World Trade Center last November; a 1 World Trade Center worker who was hospitalized after a piece of metal fell on his leg last July; and a 1 World Trade Center worker who was hit in the chest with equipment last May.
Didn't hear anything about this incident.

At least there weren't any deaths at all. The old WTC had something like 60 deaths during construction

oh yea ok I remember that now... well that's good, but still doesn't make me feel much better about the shortening of T3 let alone the removal of the radome.
