The new 1 WTC roof height is 2 meters heigher than the old 1 WTC. The top of 2 WTC is about as heigh as the old. And 3 and 4 WTC are lower but still much bigger than the old ones.

if you look on earthcam today it appears another transfer floor is taking shape at the top of the building.

But taking away the spire and shortening 3WTC was a huge blow to the complex, which will still hopefully look OK when completed, just not as good as it could have.

Since 3 and 4 WTC are close in height now, and 2 and 1 WTC are also close in height, the spiral effect is somewhat lost (which isn't actually a terrible thing since it was stupid to begin with.)
The spiral effect wasn't stupid at all...

I think Libeskinds spiral effect was horrible. The towers are beautiful, but their site plan is not

It's not a transfer floor. It's the mechanical floor. Some folks on SSP are saying it's topped out. That's wrong. The 72nd (mechanical) floor has a second mezzanine floor (72M) as well. Plus the parapet. So this one still has some more to go.

No it's not 72M and it's not the parapet whoops. They already built 72M. The PA even said there's only roof/bulkhead work left

That would imply the floors below those X beams are mech floors, which they are not. They are clearly office floors. Look at what's being built right now and compare it with the mech floor at the setback. They're identical. They are building levels 72 and 72M right now. Then the parapet will follow.

Most builders don't concern themselves with parapets or crowns when declaring buildings topped out. Once 72 and 72M (the roof) are finished, they'll announce its topped out. But there will still be a parapet left.

M doesn't stands for "mechanical" but for "mezzanine", even if it's located at a mechanical space. The PA's never 100% accurate when it comes to press info.

The parapet begins at 72nd floor and encloses the mezzanine level along with the mechanical stuff.

I absolutely 100% know it's called mezzanine. I never referred to it as mechanical in the first place. Does it serve the same purpose as a mechanical?

This is an older elevation drawing, but I think the top is still accurate. As far as I know the only difference in this and the current design is three extra office floors (two before the setback, one after). From the top you can see the 72nd level is mechanical, but not 72M. But I would surmise it serves some maintenance related issues (ventilation shafts, window washing units, water tower, etc).

Otie is right, the parapet starts on the 72nd floor, but looks like it only does for the N, S, and W sides of the tower. I wonder if we'll see the same X cross beams for those sides. Makes sense for the eastern side since that appears where most of the mech equipment is. The parapet steel doesn't have to be nearly as strong as the stuff they are currently putting up on the west side.

I always wondered, what things are they putting behind the parapet? Is it only a water tower, HVAC cooling towers and window cleaning equipment, or are there more things?
