That may change when they other two are build. 1 WTC and 4 WTC are a bit to far apart for people to realize they're part of the same complex. With 2 and 3, people might realize "oh hey, those buildings are close to each other and kinda share the same glass look, they're probably the same complex." At least I hope so. I'd hate for 2 WTC to finally get built only for nobody to appreciate the unity of the complex.

Finally that elevator is almost down. Soon the last of the glass can go up and this will be labelled complete.

They are actually way ahead of schedule. Elevator removal was supposed to last until 12/15/14 and curtain wall installation was supposed to last until 1/5/15. Looks like all of that will be sooner.

I wish there were more towers not emphasizing glass these days but no doubt the reflective glass used in WTC4 is out of this world... is it being used in 3 and scheduled to be used in 2?

The glass at 4WTC is truly amazing. I actually sometimes call it the mirror building because the reflectiveness is so incredible. I'm actually hoping 2 and 3's glass isn't as reflective, because, aside from it's simplistic design (if you're into that style), 4 doesn't have much else going for it. 1 is the centerpiece, 2 has the unique crown, 3 has the exterior steel, 4's got nothing.

It's got some nice angles but the floor the ceiling glass isn't imaginative. I do think the building DOES have something in the reflectiveness of that glass, it's breathtaking how shiny it is, how much a mirror it is. Of all the towers 4 has been always the least heralded... it's the smallest and not terribly imaginative but the glass makes it unforgettable. Maybe you're right though...no doubt the quality of glass that will be used in the remaining towers will no doubt be excellent they don't need to be as much as focal point with the other strengths each will have.

The genius of this building is the understated approach. Almost a humility. What could have been a glass box is transformed with the perfect angles. It steps out of the way and defers to others while maintaining a large presence. I didn't full appreciate this until I was there in person, but I was so impressed at how well this building fits into context and place.

From Liberty and Church, I admit that the building is not very exciting. From the Memorial side, though, 4WTC is a very dramatic and striking building. The way it plays with light is unlike anything else in NY. When they clean the glass, it's going to blow your mind!!

I have to think that, as much as I like this tower on its own, we won't be able to fully appreciate until 3 WTC goes up. They were designed as a pair; that hard edge on the North side of tower 4 is just begging to be matched by the South side of tower 3 (excitingly, mere feet away, separated by a pedestrian alley that rejects the Supertall-in-a-plaza design mentality pervasive in other parts of the world).

And that's without mention of the alternating setback elements (base of 3, middle of 4, "shoulders" of 3, roof of 4, crown of 3), or the mirrored glass shared by the two towers contrasting with tower 3's brushed metal industrial elements. Taken together, I believe we'll have a sense that these two are visually "interlocking" and from some angles may appear to be a single complex tower. Which is why that gap is just aching to be filled.

I agree with the past few sentiments, especially Marshall's one. It doesn't blow you away from some sides but the side facing the Memorial with the angles and the amazing reflection together with a completed WTC 3 really will make it come alive. Stand alone it's a nice modern glass tower with brilliant glass but the taken as the most deferential part of a group that comes together so well, I think that's what will make it. It complements the others and that will be its strength, that in that complement they all work together to form an exclamation point of rebirth and revival. Not an in your face one, but a dramatic, artistic one. It's all going to feel complete when WTC2 is built out and those brilliant diamond roof panels direct to the Memorial. Everything has to be take together rather than just as individual buildings.

Do people realize 7 is part of the complex, if so, they also do with 4.

I think the new #7 is more "part of the complex" than the old one was. The old #7 was kind of an "add-on" in the 1980's long after the rest of the old WTC was complete. But the new #7 is much more part of the new complex in a timeframe context (indeed it was finished FIRST) as well as an aesthetic one.

The sidewalk on the south side of 4WTC should be finished fairly soon right?

Get over there. That sidewalk was open last night, and is a series of 3-4 stairs spaced every 20 or so feet. Don't know how it is ADA accessible to the adjacent stores at every landing...

Also, base cladding is complete.

I believe you're referring to the north side.
