I was looking at the pics of the foundation and it looks like this building doesnt have steel beams all the way into bedrock

It that the case?

All of the Greenwich street WTC buildings sit right on top of the bedrock. There is no need for beams to be drilled deeper. That would be extremely expensive and difficult to do anyways. And quite unnecessary.

Yes they are. They've got four underground levels built up above them, plus all the accompanying support of the surrounding structures. There not going to tip over. Plus they did blast out some of the bedrock to form the foundation. So it's essentially resting in a "nest" of bedrock. VERY secure.

Some taller buildings have to drive piles into the ground to reach bedrock and secure the building (ie. Shanghai's Big Three or Burj Khalifa). That's not the case with any of the WTC towers.

Fun little side fact. 30 Rockefeller Plaza was built with the bedrock just 8 feet below the surface. NY is a great place to build skyscrapers.

Like Fred Flintstone says "I can make your bedrock Wilma"

I really hope 4WTC can go up 1 floor per week (or less) like 1WTC is currently doing. I know it's not a race, but I would love to see almost topped off structures on my next visit in April.

Yup. It should be up to the 45th floor by Sept 11, 2011, and topped out by spring 2012.

WTC1 does have beams driven into the bedrock. all the outer perimeter beams are driven straight into the ground!

I wasn't referring to 1WTC, just 2, 3, and 4WTC. It would be interesting to know how deep they go. Looking at old pictures on wtc.com gives the impression they didn't go very deep. Also remember, part of 1WTC is right above a subway line. So it probably was necessary for extra stability.

1WTC is an exceptional case. It's design is quite overbuilt (for added security).

I'd forgotten about the steel columns on 1WTC. 2006 and 2007 seems so long ago.

They've raised the scaffolding around the core today. Same procedures as 1WTC. We should see new vertical steel this week.

By Tectonic, I never really noticed that crane on Church Street before. It has been there awhile though.

Well, you post a picture of the 4WTC in the 4WTC forum, plenty of photos of the building which you could see before post it, and really expect that anybody waste time responding to you...
