I'm thinking that maybe what you're perceiving as the footprint of WTC3 is actually the core of the building. Take another look and see if you don't have an 'aha' moment.

Yes, it is progressing nicely. But why only on the west and south sides??? On the east side I still see nothing and in that pic it looks like nothing is on the north side. Yet the floors go smoothly all the way around so why wouldn't it go all the way around?

I'm not exactly overjoyed with the cladding but it's nice to see it progressing nonetheless

Love the cladding. For some reason it makes me think of the original Sonic The Hedgehog game case for Sega Genesis - something about (what looks like) a simple grid against a black background, very techno-evocative. WTC 4 also seems to owe a lot - perhaps purely by coincidence - to Japanese architecture, given its bulk. Of course, I reserve judgment until we see what the effect of the setback is going to be, whether it weakens or strengthens the advantages I see right now.

what do you mean this building looks japanese? it is designed by a japanese architect, but how does it look japanese at all? it looks to me like the same generic, cultureless (as in not resemblant of any specific culture) style that the majority of modern skyscrapers are built in.

It's bulky, with large floorplates - the Japanese design that way due to earthquakes (though obviously that's not a factor with this building). The cladding is a different story though: Japanese buildings tend to have much less interest in their specific look than the relationship to its surroundings, so they tend to be relatively cheap with exterior materials. This is most certainly not "generic" - the facade looks like an abstract grid against a black or mirrored background.

The Architect of the twin towers was Japanese American. Maybe the architect of this building, design it the way he did, so it would standout.

They had a floor of it up over the 4th - you just couldn't see it from anywhere but above. I didn't even notice it until I got home and looked at my pictures.

I think I kinda like this curtain wall better than 1wtc. They're both looking amazing though.
