should be. I'd expect most of that height to come off of the crown. The spires look a bit tall in that rendering

So lets say that they are resuming construction, here are a few questions:

1. When will glass start?
2. Will this rise quite quickly, being the base is done?
3. When will this be visible from the skyline?
4. When is this expected to top out?

Ok, indeed let's say what if they are resuming construction.
2. It has indeed a huge lead on similiar towers wich have to start with the foundations first, although they can't start immediately I suppose, since al the formwork has to be reinstalled on the core etc.

I think they made a mistake by decreasing the height of tower 3 with the redesign. And by height I mean the top of the glass cladding of the building, because the spires can't be seen that easily on a cloudy day from a distance I think, just as in this rendering. The building looks so small compared to tower 4 now. It doesn't stand out that much anymore, while it should be in my opinion, because of its narrow width.

I'm a big fan of the spiraling effect and I think that it looked better in the renderings from dbox posted earlier on this page, than the way it's going to be built now. The difference in (cladding)height between tower 2 and 3 versus the height difference between tower 3 and 4 is too big now.

I think the tower stood out too much in this early video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBu2fxCV_iM
But then they decided to increase the height of tower 4, which made it look better. But when they also lowered the height of tower 3 on top of that, I think the tower looks a bit too short now, comparing to the other buidlings in the wtc complex (spiraling effect). So at the end I think they should have left tower 3 at its original height after increasing tower 4's height.

As for the redesign; I like both designs when you look at the tower itself, but I still think the first design with the X-bracing would have looked better in the whole complex, just becáuse it had a different look than the other towers. The other towers (except for tower 2 with its vertical fins) all have a flat glass cladding, while this building had something different. It needed to have that difference I think, especially when standing next to tower 4 and it's simple design. Fortunately they left some of the bracing on the building with the redesign, but the large uncovered glass section between the bracing makes it look too much like the cladding of the other towers (as seen in the rendering), making it look a bit boring in the whole complex in my opinion.

But maybe I'm wrong about all this and it will look a lot better in real life compared to this rendering. I just wanted to tell you my opinion after (finally) becoming a member. I followed the reconstruction on this forum for a couple of years now though

the renderings showed 1 wtc antenna barely visible during the day and you can clearly see the antenna no matter what time of day so its going to be the same for this lol

Wait, what's this about a redesign. Other than the X or * bracing (which will be a downgrade change in design imo) what else is getting gutted?

The roof height was lowered by 100 feet, and I think at least one, maybe two office floors were removed.

Those are some of the "visible" changes done by the Rogers team, but there's a more in-deep alteration of the tower that almost no one (including me) outside the business will ever notice, things like a new configuration of structural load paths or changes to the distribution of MEP ducts and shafts, etc...

Oh, backup generators just arrived to site and are already in position on one of the mechanical levels.

I liked the X Brace design better, but this will look nice too. I was not aware about the reduction in height. I always thought the roof height is 1,170 ft. So is this lowered to 1,070 ft?

I don't like the height reduction but I do like the removing of the x braces

Yes, they took 100ft and some X bracing.

So the final roof height will be 1,170 ft like it says in the thread heading or is it going to be lowered from that? Thanks.

At least the spires will be counted for sure in the total height. So it's overall height will be 357m but it's appearance will make it look lower.

The height reduction sucks, but the X bracing had to go. In order to provide unobstructed views to the tenants it was a necessary move.

A massive video screen used to be in the lobby facing the memorial but it is now a blank wall.
