why - they have no use for the corner except at the ground floor

I see no point in removing the crane since there will not be anything significant in that corner except at the ground floor. Most of the mechanical will be spread out on the large floor not in a corner. I doubt they will occupy the top floor other than for sales with model offices and views. They will keep their custon climbing crane in there until the last minute.

They have not installed all the steel for the corner so why would they need to pour a slab?

I've wondered about that too, leaving the crane there must be expensive. But maybe they want to show some positivity by leaving it in place. To give it the illusion of being ready to go once a deal is signed.

Removing the crane might be the ultimate symbol of throwing in the towel. Something they probably don't want to do until the last possible moment.

You're right. According to this article from ENR.com on the One57 crane collapse, it costs between $50k and $70k per month to rent a construction crane in NYC.

Given the expense, I'm taking it as a generally positive sign in Silverstein's confidence that he can close these deals and get this tower rising.

Latest construction photos - the cladding is only visible from the memorial. Those pipes are very bizarre.

I think the pipes look cool! They fit, for some reason.

Also, I think they are permanent. The pipes on 4WTC weren't in the render, either, but they are still there.

Exhaust vents for generators, the dirty exhaust has to be directed away from the facade to prevent soot build up.

Good video update.

Love the light and refection coming off the glass of both 1 WTC and 4 WTC!

I'm so happy now seeing the fins extended at the podium of 1 WTC. I think it will look fantastic when it's all extended.

I like what I see with 3 WTC so far.. It will definitely be the odd sibling of the group and that is a good thing with the vents and the glass which looks a bit darker. This will be really nice and will definitely look more industrial looking as it should be by an architect who is known for his industrial designs.

You don't have to pay to get into the Memorial, do you?

As oppose to the 'service fee' it is free.

Yeah, they just made it mandatory that all visitors now have to pay an administration fee.

Are you staying at a hotel?

It's for operating the pools.

Once the entire park is complete and open to the public, they'll remove the fee.
