What thing? The steel structure? That is the Oculus or transportation hub. It was talked about the last page I believe, but it is more sensible to speak of it in its thread in the general development section.

the climbing basket jumped up.

its hard to tell what the end game is, but the tower just became a lot higher. Erecting another crane on top of that existing tower frame just became much more difficult.

Maybe this thing is going to be coming out in the end..

Either way you need a large crane to either install a new cab and boom or remove the mast and climbing structure. Why would you jump the mast and climbing structure when you could have taken it down in place.

They need it out of the way so they can finish constructing the floors below.

My question was supposed to be rhetorical and sarcastic. I need to work on the tone of my replies.

Can't tell until they sign for a lease.

Note:They signed a term sheet, not the offically leasing for office space.

Yeah, we're expecting to know if they're really anchor tenants in November, same time as when we'll know if 1 World Trade's "spantenna" will be counted in official height.

Construction on 3 World Trade Center, the next tower to the north, was halted after nine floors of skeletal work but is to resume as soon as Silverstein formalizes a lease with Group M and gets financing, McQuillan said. There is no completion date for Silverstein's 2 WTC on the northeast corner, which, at 1,349 feet, will be the second-tallest tower.

.....3 WTC -- Foundation and skeleton for bottom floors completed; anchor tenant negotiating lease. Construction to resume as soon as the next round of financing is in place, later this year or early 2014. Scheduled completion in 2016.

Still completion set at 2016? I know the rising process of a tower is way faster than the foundations, but I think it's at least 2017.

And is 2 WTC really 1,349 feet? I heard it was 1,352 feet and all these other heights. There has to be one official height because you can't just increase the height of a slanting tower once construction has "started".

I can't give you the specifics for Tower 2, but usually when you see different figures, they're just measuring to or from different places (such as from the lowest entrance, or to the absolute pinnacle such as a lightning rod). Depending on what two points you're measuring, the numbers can be different, but the tower design isn't changing.

I've heard so many conflicting things, I couldn't tell you with any sort of confidence. If I've got it right, lowest entrance to top of the spire, minus the lightning rod supposedly gives us that symbolic 1776 feet... but I've also heard that that's basically an inaccurate number, in between any of the "real" measurements, that they stick with for publicity.

Can anybody else clarify about where we're measuring from to get our numbers for towers 1 (1776ft), 2 (1350ft), and 3 (1170ft)?

It's official that Group M will be leasing at Three World Trade Center. Unless that's what this article says
