Why doesn't the government just fund these towers and then get some of the money once they are leased?

This is all just so stupid...

That's my point exactly! The only major new buildings that will be complete to meet that deadline are WTC 4 and WTC 1. If they went into 4 the government agencies that are putting on going to there could delay a couple of years and go into 3 thus giving it the required occupancy!

I guess their current lease expires by end 2015? Otherwise deadlines could be more flexible if they can lease cheaper somewhere else.

The last thing the US government needs is another white elephant.

I think most New Yorkers (myself included) would rather the government fund some better transit. SAS and Gateway would be a good place to start.

Looking closely at the cam you can see the Beginnings of scaffolding taking shape right around the bottom sides of the core walls.

I wonder why they are prepping the next floor forms before the PA vote. I guess they have their mind set

We do not know what they are doing, the only thing we know is there is new material on the slab and as mentioned they seem to be setting up scaffolding around the core.

Unit I see a crane on site I am not jumping to any conclusions.

There was, until the global recession hit, unemployment in Spain is pretty high. By the time it was finished, no one had the money or resources.

How so? The US still spends as much as the rest of the world combined on its military and can't fund a couple of buildings?

Ridiculous

Why would the US fund buildings that are going to be built by Silverstein? Obviously if they were going to be built by the state of New York then the US could fund whatever it wanted, doesn't make sense. If your building a house, and you can't afford it, is the US government going to fund the rest for you? No doesnt make any sense.

Ridiculous

The US can build 50 Shanghai towers if it wanted to but that's not how the economy works.

Because it's ground zero, obviously the government wouldn't fund any other project but this site is special.

It was, and will continue to be. The whole debacle with 3 WTC was that Silverstein needed a certain amount of funding in order to receive even more money from the State. There's a similar deal with 2 WTC, iirc. PANYNJ put a lot into building 1 WTC and will occupy 4 WTC.

There's no deal for 2WTC. Silverstein is on his own with that one. Though that could always change in the future.

There aren't very many thing's in the US that I think the Government should be funding. After all, history has told us, that they are some of the worst investors in the entire world

Plus, I like to invest my money, as I see fit. Every time I pay my taxes, I have this weird feeling that some Senator in D.C. is getting a Rub-n-Tug before he heads to the Airport where he will drink $350 in booze before boarding a plane to Vegas where he will "have a special meeting" with another Senator from California to discuss why Beavers build dams, and Termites destroy wood.
