I'm curious about 2 things in the photo below; What is the name of the white arch in between WTC2 and WTC3? and what is that blue cubic thing in front of the arch?
But I must say, driving beneath that white arch would be incredible.

the arch is the transport hub design by Santiago Calatrava. And I don't know what the blue buidling is.

The blue cube is a placeholder for the entrance to the museum which is being designed by Snohetta.
Here's what it will look like and where it will be. ![]()

in that last photo, are those two red columns the bottom legs of the former WTC? its got to be. If they are, then they must've been refurbished or they're not from 9.11 at all.

those are the two tridents from the twin towers but they actually saved more of them! They are red because they are a bit rusty and they have no cladding. http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=DRA5HBchWbk |

I didn't know whether I liked WTC2 or WTC3 more, but I've decided this one is the bext out of all of them. It'll be a great building when completed.

That arch thing looks like something Santiago Calatrava would design. Come to think of it, there are more conceptual pics.
www.calatrava.com It's under current or future projects under WTC Transit Station There are some concept shots that look amazing |

I actually like the cross bracing, as well. Most skyscrapers built within the last 10 years have been ultra modern, very simplistic. The detail in the facade of 3WTC is definitely going to set the building apart upon completion. Rogers did an excellent job, I think the design is a return to form in some ways. Reminds me a little of the John Hancock in Chicago.

Just saw a sign in the sewerway (I mean subway) today that shows pictures of the memorial surrounded by cobblestones with the names of those who lost their lives on 9/11. I think people can also make a donation and get a stone inscribed with a message of their own. Neat idea, brings some class to a very cold and modern looking park.

I don't think that that was fish's point. The earlier post said "replacing." The two waterfalls at the footprints reflect absence. The intention is not to replace the twins but rather to emphasize or remind the viewer of their absence.
I think that fish's point was that "replace" is the wrong word. |

It seems that the families of the victims have hijacked Lower Manhattan in the same spirit that Osama bin Laden hijacked New York City. I realize that the Twin Towers will never be rebuilt and I do not wish to direct the topic of this thread in that direction. I was merely stating an opinion of what I see when the memorial is built. A true memorial is a steel skeleton of the Twin Towers -- that way we can properly reflect the absence, while honoring the victims. Try honoring the victims with a hole in the ground in Skyscraper City (that is what New York is, a true skyscraper city). |
