Get this built NOW. That video reminded me how amazing the complex as a whole will be, and I can't imagine it without Towers 2 and 3.

This tower is rather bland. I'm not getting all the hype. OF course it should be built, but why is everyone so effusive about it? Rogers is overrated.

I think a lot of people would disagree with you on that, myself included.

Looks like more material added to the scaffolding I think.

It's not just about the tower itself, it's also about the integrity of the complex as a whole, which is awkwardly unbalanced without 3WTC. Furthermore, "Cortlandt Way" will serve as a useful access point to the site, and Westfield will only install retail in 3WTC once the entire tower is erected.

There is just a huge gap in the complex wthout tower 2 and 3.

Oh no doubt, but I'm just wondering why the tower design itself is so revered? It's basically a glass box with some diagonal cross bracing. The base itself may be wonderful if you're a fan of industrial plant architecture. It's an average tower in my opinion. If it were built alone, it would be like a NY times building #2 in terms of hype, nothing more.

It is a clean and modern tower, two things you seem to thoroughly dislike for some reason.

Just curious, what was your opinion when it had the original cross bracing going up the center of the building (that was later value-engineered out)? I liked the building more back then and hope they don't gut the spires (which would really leave it as a glass box).

I like the design and it will offer a nice contrast between the other towers. Although the design had been refined...it still industrial looking and will compliment better with 1 WTC spire. The z braces gives a look of strength & muscle.

The architectural plan for the whole site imo if the complex was a super hero group is:

1 WTC = Strength (superman of the group)
2 WTC = Blue Ribbon Tower (stuns with its looks)
3 WTC = Industrial power (a nod into our past - goes back in time)
4 WTC = Low key with cloaking abilities.

If people really can see no value in this design, I don't understand how they could be an architecture fanatic. It's more than just a "box with braces" as they call it.

An average tower? Once completed this will be one of the best examples of structural expressionism in NYC.

On further detailed viewing, the lower base is indeed worthy of some of the enthusiastic praise given, excuse me there for being a little too quick to judge. Although not my favorite style, it is indeed contains enough visual interest and industrial inspired detail to capture the eye's attention and is a reminder of the old NYC of factories, warehouses and plants. However, I feel it still lacks the finer detail of the original and comes across a bit heavy and ponderous to the extent where it is beginning to resemble a more simplistic 1960's modernist style in some aspects.

I agree with the poster above, the pre-value-engineered structure was far more of that structural expressive masterpiece and this one appears more stark, sterile and frankly just duller. The cross bracing placed on the sides of the tower combined with the base simplification is just not enough to shepherd this design into the stratospheric heights of the true greats of this architectural genre. My saying it was 'average' was, I agree, an overreaction given I was rather smitten with the original high detail of the first design. In conclusion though, my disappointment in the modification and awkward looking placement of the cross bracing elements really leaves me with little love. I stand by my stance that if this were not being built at the WTC, I seriously doubt that the design modifications would be condoned to this extent. Overall, it's not bad, but the brutal cost-cutting has turned it into some kind of mix of expressionist and modernist and I feel it doesn't quite pull off either style very well.

So what's everyones predictions for tomorrow?

It's either

A-PA Agrees
B-PA doesn't agree
C-They delay the decision a second time.

I have a feeling in my gut that they'll be choosing B.

I would not be surprised by a further delay, but if they don't I'll wager that they do not agree to back the loan.

For some reason, I'm feeling optimistic they will agree to back it.

Based off of the recent letdowns of the complex caused by the PA, I'm not feeling it. Stranger things have happened, I suppose. Only thing we can do is wait...
