There's also the American International building turning residential right now, and rumours of a Woolworth and 1 Chase Manhattan conversion (though I hope the latter remains untouched) so there's a lot of office space that needs or will need replacing.

All the Art Deco towers are getting converted it seems, cool, ten bucks says this happens to the Chrysler building too. I really hope the convert chase manhattan instead of the Woolworth, condos in an internation style tower would be really cool tough!!!

The Woolworth's upper floors are being converted to condos as we speak. 20 Exchange Place is also being converted. The Chase Manhattan Building will likely be converted next year. Any Financial District tower that doesn't offer large floorplates for trading floors may be converted since residential apartments are far more valuable than bulk office space.

What about the Trump Tower?

What I'm scared for with the 1CMP conversion is they might make openable windows, which would mess up its sleek effect.

Would they? most residential tower have mechanical ventilation, so there is no need to open windows.

Same here. But can we really expect construction to resume in the next weeks anyway? Assuming there still are some bureaucratic issues to resolve (this is the WTC after all) and they have to get all the materials ready as well as transport it, isn't August or September more realistic? Of course I'd be happy if things started up faster, but I doubt they will...

If they don't show signs of construction resuming soon, GroupM may want to back out.

O/T, but I just read that Silverstein is proposing an 1,100 foot tower for 11th Street, on the west side.

The 1,100' proposal is new though as the plans had been submitted for approval with the local community board a few weeks back. Prior to, the proposal called for one or two ~700+ towers.

I expect something different for the final product than any of those renderings posted above.

Silverstein within the last couple of years had been championing for more affordable housing specifically for this neighborhood and this project.

With Bill D B's new affordable housing policy, it seems Silverstein is intent to take advantage of it for this 1100' proposal.

I never took that proposal seriously. Silverstein doesn't do bravura architecture, his go-to guy is David Childs after all. Maybe he's proposing an 1,100 ft. project in anticipation of getting more density approved which he needs to do more affordable housing. Nothing about that render going around suggests anything close to 'affordable'.

Turns out, there's actually always been work going on in 3 WTC. We just can't see it.

Regardless of what is happening above, several contractors are still working on the inside: Eurotech is building CMU walls at various locations of the podium, carpenters are building door frames at Central Corridor inside the core, Prince is maintaining safety nets at various locations. Down the B1 and B2 levels workers are installing marble, storefront glass and ceiling panels within the North/South Corridor, there's also lots of work related to MEP. Most of the MEP work is related to the Transit Hub infrastructure.

In terms of vertical construction resuming, WSP Cantor Seinuk and Rogers and Sons are inspecting core shear walls. Rogers & Sons did a risky move to install scaffolding while negotiations were still going, they said they would move ahead for either capping or resuming work, but their scaffolding is specifically for construction.
