Submarines are equipped with missiles which can be used to shoot down planes.

One interesting thing I noticed on the WTC3 website; the first office floor is numbered 11. I guess they are pulling the same stunt they did with T1, skipping some numbers to make the building sound taller. At least they didn't start with 20.

BTW are they skipping 13?

13 is just a number though, isn't it?

yeah but there are people who are spooked by it and many NYC buildings skip the floor number (and I've even seen some use 12a).

I second weirdncol's motion to resume the discussion of the tower and it's construction, and not of security measures imposed by the nypd and the panynj pd.

Just that security shed planned near the WTC looks dystopian.

What "security shed"? If you mean the personnel booths, they really don't look that bad. They are made by the same architects that make newsstands in the area.

PATH station is between 1-2 WTC, it's only temporary and will be the future site of the Performing Arts center. Structure across from the memorial is the Vehicle Screening Center. Liberty Park will be built on top of it.

ROTFLMAO. Your wit and attempt to disparage me made me smile. How long did that comeback take to come up with? Couple hours?
[here is the definition for so you don’t have to look it up – disparage: to describe (someone or something) as unimportant, weak, bad, etc..]

US Submarine Force
Ohio Class (nuclear deterrent and cruise missile launch platform) – 14 Ballistic Missile Configuration and 4 Converted to Tomahawk Cruise Missile Configuration
Los Angeles Class (for attacking land and sea surface targets) – 10 with torpedo tube launched weapons, 31 with torpedo tube and vertical launch systems. The class has capability to fire torpedoes, decoys and cruise missiles.
Seawolf Class (for attacking land and sea surface targets) – 3 very large fast attack subs similar to Los Angeles Class (quieter and faster) however can also operate in littoral waters.
Virginia Class (for attacking land and sea surface targets) – 21 large fast attack subs similar to Los Angeles Class (quieter and faster) however has Ballistic Missile capability (non Nuclear).

Submarines are designed to operate submerged and undetectable. Open Ocean is their home. Submarines are most vulnerable in harbors because they can easily be detected, tracked and the probability of collisions is greatly increased. Typically submarines will enter harbor at night on cloudy days to avoid satellite observation. These subs operate offensive weapons to be used against land or sea targets. Their most important defensive system is their stealth. Subs have no systems to track or fire missiles at aerial targets (sub deployable/retrievable UAV in development).

Aegis Combat Destroyer would do what you would like. The Aegis Combat System is an advanced command and control, and weapon control system that uses powerful computers and radars to track and guide weapons to destroy enemy targets. This would be a serious overkill and I would guess the radar system would cause havoc in the New York Metro area.

To everyone else: Sorry. I know you are tired of this sub crap but this was fun while very little happens at 3WTC.
