Hudson11, thanks for the beautiful pictures of the new WTC complex including the Memorial - we need to wait for completing 3WTC and last 2WTC (+the hub of course) to see a new incredible dimension of this unique place

Wrong thread IK, but 4 WTC might not be the tallest, but with its sharp lines and super glass is the coolest building.

they're prepping for a concrete pour on the final podium level. Hopefully after this they'll fireproof the steel and finish the podium cladding. I'm guessing they need to wait for the floors on the east side to be constructed to pour on the rest of the floors which are already built behind the podium.

There definitely will be a SW crane, there is no way around to complete the building without it. Estimated time of erection for that crane is 07/15 but that might change.

As far as the NE crane, it has been delivered and is actually in NJ. Estimated time of erection is 06/15 - but I would not be surprised if this was pushed back the way things are going.

To be honest with you, the only info I get is through what I see on the webcams: I saw the pieces of the white crane arriving, and I thought that it would jump...

But wait, are you saying that EVERYTIME a crane needs to jump 100 feet, there is a burocratic process that has to be filled by the PA? No wonder then that progress is so slow

Yes that's what I'm saying. It's the same everywhere in NYC with the building department, but on the WTC site the PA is in charge.

Every jump has to be engineered to make sure that the crane will be stable and properly "tied" to the building to avoid an accident. The engineering is then reviewed by the structural engineer of the building, an independent peer reviewer and the PA engineering department before an approval is issued. There are also a lot of inspections that have to be performed to make sure that everything is ready and properly installed.

The engineering involved may not be "rocket science" but a crane this big does not jump without some serious planning/preparation... And while this can be a long and tedious process, every precaution has to be taken to make sure everything is OK - more so considering the site's particular configuration and the terrible material damage (WTC#4, WTC Hub) and casualties that could potentially result from a crane's accident.

That being said the crane should jump tomorrow morning - weather permitting.

There is some video footage I took over the weekend that has all the WTC buildings in it. I hope to take some more photos/video from the observation deck next month.

The days are better and longer so they could still stay on floor a week pace.

So it's about one floor per week. and how many floors have been completed? How many to go to the top?
