Yeah that Kohn Pederson Fox design for 5WTC is long dead. That was drawn up when JP Morgan Chase showed interest in moving there, and frankly I was happy to see it go. The original plan was for some sort of hotel/residential space (see my previous post) and I believe the plan is to go back to that eventually. They want to finish Liberty Park first before they make any decisions about the site.

My guess is that the NE crane will be installed when the northern part of the podium will be tall enough: they need to attach the mast of the crane to something high enough and solid enough. They can't attach it to the core's concrete. Once the northern part of the podium will provide support, they will quickly install the crane attaching it to the steel structure.

and so begins an iconic facet of the design on the main portion of the tower. The side cross-braces are probably the second most notable characteristic of this tower; the first being the crown with four spires.

WOW!! KPF designed that? Well I'm glad their designs have gotten better.

They didn't have much to work with. They were asked to accommodate JP Morgan Chase's huge trading floors in a relatively small space. It just didn't make sense. It would've been absolutely hideous. Thankfully, JPMC went elsewhere and the design died. The side effect is that now the future of the site is in limbo. Hopefully they will build a modest tower with a swanky hotel and some high-end condos that seem to be all the rage these days.

It's still kinda hard for me to realize that another WTC tower is rising. I was so excited when 1 and 4 finished, and then with such a long wait, it just seems like any other skyscraper project.

I am probably 80% sure that the spires are removed, why would they make renderings of 3 WTC without them? I am sure their gone. Maybe they increased the roof height to where the spires originally were? Doubt it though the way today has gone lol

Nooo ooooo! The spires well and truly completed this design! It was simple, yet industrial looking and iconic...

Possible the worst design choice out of 1, 3 and 4...

Tbh, this building will probably look better without the cross braces now the spires have gone... they complimented one another so well

I'm just really disappointed

They're doing as much as they can to f*ck everything up, I'm convinced. I guess they secretly hate America.

I don't understand why the spires needed to be removed for this???
This complex gets worse each year, two world trade center looks horrendous now, like a gigantic staircase...
