I hope the spires remain in the project!

With the spires, the cross bracing made visual sense. Now it just looks like a tacked on afterthought.

Who knows, maybe they'll cancel the cross-braces too, and take down the ones they already put up

I'm getting slightly irritated you people are jumping to conclusions here. We don't know for sure the spires were removed. Nothing was announced. Those renders for 2 WTC were showing that building, not showing renders for 3 WTC. In those particular sets of renders, 3 WTC was merely a background building.

those renderings by Dbox were made to showcase the completed WTC, not just 3 WTC. Depictions of 3 WTC without its spires are on the WTC's website. 3 WTC's logo no longer has spies, whereas it used to. We're not 'jumping to conclusions' were making logical assumptions.

The writings on the wall regardless of any "announcements". They changed the logo and removed the spires while adding a render in the gallery on the website without them. IMO they are just doing it quietly and without fanfare.

Would the spires make 3WTC taller than "the new and improved" 2WTC? That is probably why they have not shown the spires...

The whole complex had been thought harmoniously.

no. The parapet height was somewhere in the 1080' range. The spires were what brought it up to 1170'. Certain rendering suggest that the parapet has been extended to 1170' instead, probably to give the complex a more unifying look, with 1 WTC having the only pinnacle above its roof/parapet. BIG and Silverstein did say that they consulted with the architects of the other towers, so this was probably a decision made amongst them.

I have lost so much interest in the site after what they did to 2 WTC.

Huge disappointment.

The original master plan envisioned a kind of step-down formation leading down to the memorial. Each tower was meant to be slightly shorter than the next. My problem with the site now as it's evolved is that each tower's uniqueness seems like it's being whittled away. 1WTC's spire was stripped bare; 2WTC's elegance and iconic silhouette is gone, replaced by a stack of boxes; 5WTC is in limbo and may not even be built at all (the only formal design for it has been...thankfully...scrapped). The spires of 3WTC seem like a little thing, but they add individuality. The tower is better with them because it sets the tower apart from the rest.

The original plan amassed a great group of veteran architects who came up with, IMO, some terrific designs (other than the design for 5WTC, which was terrible). Now we've got people tweaking them at the last minute. It's like people thinking they can touch up a Rembrandt with stuff from their local arts and crafts store. Just stop it.

Wolff 700B tower crane for the NE corner should be arriving this upcoming week. Let's get that east steel started!

I get your point. But in reality that there has always been a compromise between constructability, cost and aesthetics. It is not going away, in like... forever.
I am in pain from the latest changes

This is my first post on this thread i am sorry if my english is bad.

So from what i understand 2WTC is completely changed, but i am not sure about 3WTC. I found a video on Vimeo where it shows the new towers and 3WTC looks almost the same. I think it will have only two spires which are not very visible in the renders.

The video was posted 3 days ago.

For fück's sake, just attach four I-beams to the roof if you're too lazy to do the spires. No way in hell scrapping the spires costs more than a few thousand dollars.
