I don't mind the loss of the antennae. Pretty minor change compared to the loss of the cross braces from the original design. Not worth getting upset over.

I personally really like the spires on this building because they actually look like part of the design of the building instead of the blob stuck on top of WTC 1 so they could say it was 1776' tall!

The spires never gave me much, so i've no problem that it gets build without them.

Of course somewhere along, something is going to block the other thing.

Can anyone explain this to me?

thanks

I understand everything now !

Looks like they'll be using a mix of Favco & Wolff mast sections.

It's finally here! In many pieces that have yet to be fitted together. How long until the crane is fully assembled, functional, and for us to see the first section of steel to go up on the East side?

Why don't they just use all Wolff mast sections?

My guess is that the climbing mechanism was built for Favco mast sections. NYStruct might have more information about that.

Well if that's the case, they should've just used a Favco 760. From what I've heard before, the whole reason they selected Wolff is because the modification required to use an internal climbing Favco (for this specific case) was not yet approved in NYC.

You guessed correctly.

The Wolff tower would not fit on the climber system with the upper and lower climbing grillages, and its strength/rigidity is also a limiting factor for this application.

On the other hand, the deck of the M760D is too long and would hit the corner of the concrete core.

Hence the solution: Wolff on internal climber with Favco sections.

Yeah, the mast is up....but it's a weird configuration the way it transitions from heavy frames to lighter one at the top. I don't think I've ever seen this before.

It looks like my Manhattan puzzle is out of date; time to bust out the sandpaper.

I have the same puzzle I wonder if they will update it in the near future with the new 2 WTC, Nordstrom, Steinway, 432 Park Ave and so on...

The design that included the spires was listed as 1080 feet to the top of the parapet and 1170 to the top of the spires. Now articles are saying the spire-less version of the tower will be 1170 feet tall. Is there any official confirmation of that?

Until something official is released, I will assume that the top of the parapet will remain at 1080 feet.

they actually look like TG1900 tower sections that have been painted white.

based on the fact that this crane is owned by federated, that would make sense. they own a few TG1900s
