Value Engineering. Besides that, there was literally no reason to get rid of them but to save money.

Yep...even today more east side steel going up. But they are rapidly running out of room to do any more without a crane jump. I wonder why they haven't done this yet? When the blankety blank blank are they going to do this?

In order to reduce waste of time and money ( few jumps) they better off doing this way than jumping crane every week.

Probably Richard Rogers' worst design. It's not easy to make a Rogers building look boring, but I think they've succeeded. It seems like Calatrava was the only architect to come up with something unique for this project.

It's not Rodgers fault his design was value-engineered.

4 WTC and 7 WTC are the only towers in the complex that have stayed true to their original designs with no major changes whatsoever.

1 WTC and 3 WTC have had the most alterations done to them. I thought 2 WTC would be spared from the value-engineering or design tweaks, instead it got the biggest change of all: a complete redesign from a new architect. While Ingels's tower continues to grow on me, the fact that we will finally see tower 2 rise but in a different form feels a little Shakespearian in the sense that we're getting something we've waited a very long time for but not in the way we were hoping for...

I appreciate it wasn't his fault, but the original design, although decent, wasn't his greatest either. Maybe it's time we stopped using "value engineering" and started calling it what is is - "cheaping out".

You could have said disappointment of a building instead of being "cheaping out". How could Roger's original version of 3 WTC be "cheaping out" when it had its original height, spires and cross bracing?

You mention the hub, beautiful as it is, is ridiculously overpriced.

Imo,Roger's design is really mediocre and uninspired, the worst being the cross bracing and the tacky spires..Four and seven being really good and one pretty good if I reduce the spire and redesign the base(with the original tapering sides)
About the hub:pretty cheap if I consider that it's gonna be one of NY's landmark(by the way,who knows the price tag of the hub itself?)
To conclude:gathering a team of Pritzker price is not a garanty of success!
Should the PA and Silverstein have deal with SOM for the all design, the final result would be for sure irreproachable.

The hub is cheap? That's a new one as well as WTC 7 is the best in the complex with tower 4.... to each their own I suppose but my view on this complex is very different. 3 WTC may very well be my favorite tower in the complex even after the re designs. 2 and 7 are my least favorite unless they can change tower 2's design and lastly the hub will become a landmark for the city because of its spectacular design.
