I don't see any indication that Foster's is coming back, though.

You could be right, but there would also be no good reason to build BIG's pile of crap considering Fox will no longer occupy the building and it was designed for them.

I'm not sure how they compare price wise but Foster's in many ways could be more practical. Of course it's a decade old so who knows... we may have no idea what will eventually go here, and when...

I disagree. In fact, on a financial standpoint, it would make more sense for Foster's design to comeback. BIG's design was going to be far more expensive than the original because it required massive foundation overhaul work, which not only meant a lot of money but also a logistical nightmare. The foundation work for Foster's building is already there. So financially it would make more sense, not to mention save money, to go back to the original than to go with something else.

The spires are gone though. They were part of the original cross beam structure. When they scrapped the cross beams the spires would have been behind the curtain wall on the roof and weren't really part of the design. Scrapping them was just the inevitable next step.

Frankly I don't care anymore. I loved the original design, back in the day. The bland value engineered version doesn't do much for me anymore. Just like 1 WTC where they ****ed up the base and turned the spire into a piece of garbage.

I'm glad BIG's eyesore is in doubt, but all in all, the exciting elements of each tower have been scrapped. Only the hight remains.

I think squaring off the base on 1WTC was the right move, and the spire really doesn't look that bad in person. If they hadn't redesigned the spire I don't think they would be able to light it the way they do. In the renderings with the radome only the base of the spire seemed to be lit.

As far as 3WTC goes... I don't feel good about any of the design changes, the building is too bland now like you said. Like everyone else, I am hoping the spires return but deep down I know they won't.

4 WTC is arguably the winning underdog of the complex. In terms of design.

If the BIG proposal is scrapped, I will be extremely happy. Not only was it unattractive and poorly positioned, with its back to WTC 1, it wasn't even original. There is a similar building nearing completion in Bogota, Colombia, except that the Bogota building is much better. You can see it by following my link below.

I think they're replacing the facade with glass.

Pretty modest change, considering what's been proposed in the past. And comparing it to the other big-time reclad project in town.

No kidding. It looks like it grew a tumor. Developers in New York these days seem to be obsessed with ******* things up just because they can.
