It's jumped like 3 floors this month alone, in fact, they are currently doing another jump right now.

Now, here's a question....when the core tops out, since this is a core-first construction, is that considered building "topping out" or do we still wait for the steel? Or are there two separate "topping outs" for this building?

When the core or steel is done most builders proclaim it's topped out. For purposes on SSC we wait until the building has acheived its final height. In some cases like this tower there's a parapet of glass, a spire, etc that is still to be erected. So when the core or steel is done, it really won't be its full true height. So we won't change the thread title until the parapet is finished. Same was true of 4WTC.

Why do you suppose this one has so many exterior hoists on it during construction? Seems it has more than usual.

I have a few questions. When will the core top out? And will the steel ever catch up to the core? Also, anybody know when the cladding will be on the actual tower instead of just the base? Thanks!

topping out is a steel term only. It is supposed to be the last piece installed, no matter what it is, big beam, little beam, doesnt matter

it has been cooped by every trade.

Later today and the next few days, we will see the same cladding that's on the 5th and 6th floor go on floors 11, 12 and 13

Isn't the floor they just started cladding the first of the 3 mech floors? And they are putting up glass, not that black stuff.

That is just part of the design scheme. The vents will still go in, but each of the 3 mehcanical floors will share both glass and vents by use of the steel that is dividing each of the double height floors in half.

So, on the tower, what are those black/grey 'stripes'? Are they mechanical floors? And can people go into them?
