Apparently there was some kind of issue with the handling of a picked load before the jump scheduled last week on 5/26. The crane is OK but shut down until a full investigation is concluded.

I love all these pictures (near postcard pictures) of lower Manhattan skyscrapers & skyline on these couple recent pages ! Thank you guys ! I've visited once but hope to come back someday...
In the meantime you guys keep my NY image fresh and updated. (Lots of newcomers in that skyline, I'm so happy I can tell them all just by looking at these pictures, thanks to these forums...)

A pick is a lifted load of material. The issue with the crane could be a number of things. May have scraped the load line against the building, or limit switches were hit on overloaded pick (lift). A tie into the core may need to be looked at, the load line may have jumped a shive. Hook on guys could have screwed up a pick and lost a load off the truck. Many little things to check out, if not ok you could damage a crane or lose it. Peoples lives are at stake.

Great work by Otie. Really seems to be no reason why 3 WTC lost its spires.

Agree if it was a stand alone.
Among a cluster it was imo very heavy and disharmonious.
Moreover,i do regret tower three did not adopt the same design than tower 4(a bit taller)for the fluidity and line of the ensemble.
Ingels did a great job harmonizing all that mess.

I like the diversity of the current/planned designs, and the fact that there is still a nice flow within that diversity. Every building has it's very unique identity. I do believe though, that 2WTC should be reversed to the original design

This 3WTC design reminds of HK International Commerce centre.

Yeah sure. The new design of tower 2, pretty much ruined the harmony on the site.

My opinion, of course.

Northeast crane will be removed first as the Potain will be taken over by the steel erector once the concrete is topped off. It is tentatively planned for end of July as of now...

The core crane was put back in service yesterday - it will be jumping next Monday or Tuesday if all preparations are completed in time and without incident...

Never noticed the little zig zag detail in the crown. It kinda pays homage to the cross-bracing, doesn't it? Pretty cool.

interesting, because the buiding steps in at the south first and the southwest crane appears to be in the outermost bay which would mean it can only climb a bit further and a erect a bit more before getting twoblocked by the building
