Forgive me for posting off topic but I don't know where else to ask. My girlfriend and I will be in NYC in January and I need two great places to eat. One needs to be along the Hudson River on the West side of Manhattan near the Whitney Museum. We will be eating lunch here.

The second one needs to be downtown Manhattan. We enjoy American and Italian, mostly burgers, steaks, pasta, etc. Chinese or similar foods do not interest me. Please help with any advice. It is much appreciated in advance!

for downtown, google Stone Street, plenty there and quaint as hell also Delmonico's . West Side, Del Posto or Scarpetta near Whitney Museum.

The A/C compressors are similar to the ones in One Liberty Plaza

What are those black things they are building on the roof? They reach over the parapet sadly...

AC chillers. They do not extend over the parapet, so no worries there.

I mean the black thin crane body looking things surrounding the A/C chillers they seem to be building. I can't figure out what they are.

Well the FAVCO crane (black one) is taking away the red one (A Potain I think it was). But if you look at the FAVCO, its had its climbing frame removed. Thats how it jumps itself. Those three black towers on top of the building are just in the right formation for a derrick crane. That will take the FAVCO away. The FAVCO can't climb down to its base as it can't be reached from the ground by a mobile crane. They'll lift a smaller crane up to remove the derrick crane when its done its work.

It was cold out today but the air was crisp and the skies were beautiful. Taken a few hours ago by me.

The last picture really shows that a signature tower like 1 WTC doesnt even stand out a lot in LM. Especially since NY by Gehry was build, LM looks more or less like a plateu of towers. This effect will be more drastic when the towers around Beekman street and Fulton street get done. The skyscraper build on Maiden Lane might be the only one to have a rather huge impact on LM in terms of optical changes within the skyline. 45 Broad street will have a huge impact too.

Manhattan really needs megatalls now to get back to it´s thin towers 1930s glory, IMO.
