Dunno, but I can't imagine them containing anything other than water

New York, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] The New York Power Authority (NYPA) announced that it has reached an agreement that will make the redeveloped World Trade Center the site of one of the largest fuel cell installations in the world. The agreement, valued at US $10.6 million, was reached with UTC Power for equipment purchases to provide heat and power for the new towers.

The fuel cells which have a combined 4.8 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity, will provide an on-site supplement to the renewable power and other clean energy the rebuilt World Trade Center will receive via power lines from off-site sources. The development, known as The Freedom Tower, is being developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

“One of the most important building projects in the nation will be equipped with space-age energy technology that uses an electrochemical process to produce clean on-site power,” said New York State Governor David Paterson. “The fuel cells and other measures will help make the new World Trade Center towers an exemplar of environmental sustainability and will signal to the world New York State’s commitment to greater energy security and reduced dependence on foreign oil. I can think of few sites in the country where the symbolism of this is more important.”

Facade detail of new 3WTC model.

Old model vs new. While I'm obviously still working on the details of the latter, it's enough to show off overall differences between the designs.

Like I said before, I think they've chopped the height down to 1,170' total. I'm tired of counting floors and measuring proportions, so if someone else can reconcile this official render from RRS with a 1,240' height, I'd be curious to hear your reasoning.

Someone pointed out earlier that the setbacks on either side of 3 WTC will be aligned with the setback and roof of 4 WTC. Will this not be the case anymore?

That looks terrible! Not the renders, but the building all together. This makes me really angry.

The plain building looks much better. And I don't care how much they change it, as long as it's a supertall.

Typical case of cutting costs.

The plain look may still be good, but the earlier design had character, this one does not.

I still love 3WTC. With the new design it is now a transition point between the most complex building and the simplest building of the new WTC.

4WTC is still the simplest building of the bunch. And 2WTC is the most complex by fair. 3WTC is the most overrated out of all 5 buildings.

I don't mind them removing the bracings but the height reduction pisses the hell outta me

I hope so. I'm still just learning to like the new WTC. I'm one of those twin fans.

That, you made abundantly clear at SSP.

Well, you have a choice. Either learn to appreciate what you can of the new buildings, or be angry for the rest of your life. These buildings are being built strong enough to last for hundreds, if not a thousand years. There's not going to be a WTC 3.0. This is it.

So it's your call. How do you want to live your life?

I hate to say it, but I often find myself thinking that as long as NY is giving Chicago a run for their money, I don't care how the building looks as long as it's a supertall.
