There could always be a possibility of the spires coming back in the future. Could be another twenty years, but they could come back. For example, the Renaissance Tower in Dallas originally had no spires on top. The spires were added on when the skyscraper underwent a face uplift 12 years after it was completed.

This would mark the first time a crane hasn't been on site in...what? A decade or more?

That's for tower cranes only. A number of mobile cranes are working on the Performing Arts Center site.

Yes I dd, only went around downtown. I also signed up for another flight and plan to do midtown. The wind from the rotors made it much harder to hold the camera still than I thought... coupled that with the low light made the pictures not as great as they could've been. My advice is that if you do sign up, go for a daytime flight first so that you'll know what it'll be like taking pictures from a helicopter without having to worry about light and risk getting not so great photos from your first flight.

The first tower crane on site for WTC#1 was actually commissioned in April 2007 - so a little under a decade ago, but tower cranes were also used before that in 2004 for the reconstruction of 7WTC.

Great advice! I'm planning on taking one in 2018 when all the midtown supertalls are close to topping out.

I like that 111 Murray is peaking above the plateu, once 45 park Place is done, it should partly block 3WTC from that vantage point, making it more anchored iun the skyline fabric. It´s getting super dense down there.

All we have to hope now is, that Fosters 2WTC can be brought back. But i am also open to let myself suprise positivly of a BIG WTC2.

Wow what a beautiful city NY is, been said before of course but still.

What is the status of the new WTC project? How many buildings are there in total being planned and when are all of them suppose to be completed ?

That's the problem with downtown... it's so dark and drab at night. I couldn't get any decent photos when I took the ferry around Manhattan. WTC in particular would have really shined had they illuminated its vertical edges. Would have made that ridiculous antenna look more proportional and fitting as well.

Edge lighting like that is tacky IMHO. I'm glad they didn't do it to the WTC.

Did you seriously just say that downtown manhattan was 'dark and drab' at night?
It's effing glowing.
I recommend learning how to take photos at dusk (tricky esp. aerial shoots) rather than saying things that make zero sense.
I bet this guy didn't think it was too dark.
