WOW. And another tower (hopefully) is about to add to lower Manhattan's sheer density. Love it.

They will build up to the seventh floor. If no tenant is found by late '13, then the roof will be capped.

Eh. I suspect this thing will go straight up.

If not, that's fine too. That way when I move to NYC in 2016 (need to wrap up my doctorate so that I can afford to live there... ha ha ha ) the rents should be cheaper near the site since the construction will still be ongoing.

I dunno but shouldn't there be more columns inside the core? I mean, I know they know what they're doing but to me the core seems too dull. I always imagined a core to be full of beams as reinforcements

Core has elevator shafts and staircases..Elevator shafts are like vertical tunnels where cabins run up and down..Beams and reinforcements are in those thick concrete walls..

So the walls of the core are strong enough and there is no need for further reinforcement. Thanks for the info Dino

Exactly..Core is like a spine to the building..Most of the load goes to the ground through the core..Core holds everything..Walls are seriously thick..

I heared somewhere that the core of 1WTC should be 3 feet thick, is that accurate? And will the other WTC buildings have an equaly strong core?

Sure, the one behind reception is even 4 feet thick..

Yes, the whole complex is incredibly strong and safe..

Ive heard that if 1WTC were to ever be hit by a plane (i hope to god this never happens) that it would be strong enough to stand for 7 hours ... And that is without any water etc.

So an incredibly strong, strong building.

It would stand way longer than 7 hours..This thing would need a couple of planes to make some serious damage..Which won't happen because Air Forces would crash the plane before it gets close to the tower..Which, again, won't happen because people in the plane would kill terrorists even before Air Force come..Which, again, won't happen because security on the airports is too tight..
