if that happens the "new WTC" will be the biggest disgrace in the history of NYC .

1 WTC is being built by the Port Authority. 2, 3, and 4 WTC are supposed to be built by Silverstein Properties. Currently only Towers 1 and 4 are under construction, with Towers 2 and 3 in jeopardy of being put on hold or canceled completely. If they are put on hold or if retail "stumps" are built in place with the intention to finish the towers later, the odds are that they will never be finished.

What kind of hope? Hope (knowledge) that politics can screw up anything good? This project has been the biggest cluster F__K in the history of urban planning. There are so many government agencies involved that nothing can ever happen when it's supposed to. If this project was being done by private industry it would be very close to completion by this time.

If SP were the only ones building it, it would be close to completed by now. With everyone involved, there's always a problem.

Thanks! and why the Towers 2 and 3 are in jeopardy of being put on hold or canceled?

It gives hope to chronic complainers who are always on the lookout for something to whine about.

No one wants to lend any money due to the recession/credit crisis.

It would be much more logical to just wait out the economy crisis and put the towers on hold rather than cancelling them or building a mall. The office space at the site is much to precious to waste and will be needed sometimes in the future.

New York City is growing

towers 2 and 3 where the two most beautiful towers in the entire project. Hopefully the economy gets back on the move again so SP can shut up government idiots who have no education what so ever but get to deside about everything!

An interesting twist in the PA vs Silverstein fight. Tower 2 is out, Tower 3 is in...

Silverstein offers more money for Ground Zero site
by Theresa Agovino

Developer's overture to put more of his own skin in the game is latest twist in negotiations to end longtime financing fight with Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.

Developer Larry Silverstein is offering a host of proposals, including ideas that put more of his own money at risk, to end his battle with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey over financing two of his towers at Ground Zero, sources say.

However, it’s questionable that Mr. Silverstein’s moves will actually bring the two sides closer, as sources familiar with the Port say the agency regards the proposal as “smoke and mirrors” that don’t really change the underlying financing of the deal.

To make financing two of his three planned towers more palatable, Mr. Silverstein says he'll pony up between $150 million and $250 million to fund the second tower instead of just the $50 million he had originally offered. He has also offered to allocate the insurance money and proceeds from all of his Liberty bonds to build the two towers. The proceeds were originally supposed to be divided over the three towers.

Additionally, in a move that will save about $262 million, Mr. Silverstein will build what is referred to in various development plans as Tower 3, instead of his more expensive Tower 2.

That... seriously ruined ground zero. Tower 2 was probably going to be my favorite tower of New York...
