No, it will definitely be built, almost certainly with the current design. It is a question of when, not if.

I think we should just take a big breath and realize that considering how complex the whole WTC was to build and the reality of commercial real estate, we should be glad that 3 and soon 4 towers have risen or are on their way up. As far as 2wtc, like the other towers it will get built once everything is in place, I just don't see any scenario where it would be cancelled cause that would mean giving up on a very sought out piece of land and good luck trying to rededicate it to something else than an office tower. Besides, there are quite a few companies looking for decent size space to might eventually choose 2wtc (credit Suisse, BOA, News corp, Ralph Lauren......). The only competition is the Hudson Yards but 2WTC has a leg up on it as foundation is done and the area is almost done with constructions, and close to all kind of mass transit including a very important connection to New Jersey, making it very desirable for potential tenants. Then when you take into consideration how old office space is in the city and tenants will be seeking newer and shinier locations, an iconic location like the WTC will be at the forefront; so let's all relax and understand that it will take some time to build, but it will get built!

Not sure if I agree with that statement, none of these developments have to do with the other, the Performing arts center is well on its way to being developed, foundation has been ongoing and financing is well on his way with the LMDC dedicating a large sum to its completion, so this one will most likely rise once the PATH station is built in 2015. The PA has always said they would end up selling 5WTC to a private developer, probably turning it into condos, my guess is they're waiting till the WTC is built up so they can sell the land at a higher value since it will be more attractive then, so this will get built, it's a matter of when and by whom. Lastly 2WTC is just waiting for tenants but it too will eventually get built. We all need to take a big breath and realize how complex the WTC is and understand it will take some time to be all built, but I'm glad we're more than halfway there.

Larry Silverstein signed the 99 year lease for the WTC before 9/11 in July of 2001.

I thought 5 WTC was still alive, just very close to being cancelled.

Its construction is postponed indefinitely. It'll require a new design, high occupation in the other 5 towers, and most importantly, financing.

No, 5WTC. That'll probably scare a bunch of people in the next few days.

Don't worry. Tower 2 is special. Larry Silverstein would be bummed if it was cancelled, and he'd receive a lot of criticism (because for many people, 2 WTC is their favorite tower in the complex). What kind of reputation would SOM, Silverstein, and Durst get if they just cancelled the building, which was supposed to be the South Tower's replacement? And even more importantly, what if you lost a close one in the South Tower during 911 and 2 WTC was cancelled? How would that make you feel?

Of course the construction is postponed, and maybe it is indefinitely, but it's WAY more likely to be built than 5 WTC, although I'm clinging on to the hope that 5 WTC would be built. So next time someone asks if it's possible that 2 WTC might get cancelled, just say, "FAT CHANCE!"

Speaking of 5 WTC, could someone post a link to the thread if there is one?

I don't believe Silverstein even owns the building anymore.

Doesn't the PA own 5 WTC?

No, JP Morgan Chase bought it back in 2007 for $290,000,000.

Actually the PA still owns the site, there has been no clear proposals since the JPMorgan deal fell through. I'm not sure why there's so much speculation on 5WTC when the PA have said all along that they would sell it to a developer at some point (potentially turning it I to condos or a hotel) so there's no clear idea what's gonna happen on the site or when it might happen.

1. Thisis not garbage

2. There IS a 5wtc, it just wont be JP Morgan anymore, it will be something different now

3. It has to do with it because they are in the same complex. They are all World Trade Centers
