I don't think so, since the foundations are built. But if we didn't take weight into account (if maybe 2 WTC has the strength to acquire 50 more floors of vertical pressure), the height can easily be increased during construction by adding more floors IF the building hasn't gone to the point of no return- construction of the diagonal roof.

And there's also that sentimental factor, too. The original south tower was shorter than the North tower by 6 feet (by official height). So it would ruin, perhaps, a tribute to the twin towers by making 2 WTC a few feet taller than 1 WTC. And if you're talking about official height- making 2 WTC taller is very, very close to impossible because it would change the whole look of the complex.

But a slight height increase- maybe from 1,350 feet to 1,362 feet would be something I would gladly embrace. But I'm not sure it can be done, although there is a possibility. But making it 1800 feet would have no logical sense.

The stairs effect that is present in the new complex is pretty awesome.

Sadly, I think there isn't such an opportunity. The underground part of the building is already built so I'd say they can't do any changes at all to the design anymore

Besides, it would dramatically change how the complex looks. Here's a drawing of the complex and how it relates to the memorial:

And here's a drawing of how the tower's heights relate to each other:

If we were to make 2 WTC taller than 1 WTC, it would change the "form" into an ugly mountain, with 2 WTC on top. A few people have mentioned that they wanted 2 WTC to be the main tower in the complex because of its great design, but if that happened, where would 1 WTC go?

Libeskind's site plan is horrible so I really couldn't care less about his curve being ruined. In my opinion the taller 2WTC would be, the better. Although as I said before, nothing can be done about its height at this moment

I pray that 2 WTC's height doesn't get decreased.

It won't. It's Silverstein's favorite.

I hope you're right. Though I think that if it would be more profitable Larry would gladly decrease its height. If he weren't only after profit he wouldn't have built as much as 4 towers each far shorter than the Twin Towers, so I really doubt he would ignore the call of money if it would call out to him

Why would they decrease the height and relinquish rentable space? I think that it will take many years to lease it, but it will get built.

Though, they're having enough trouble getting tenants as it is, increasing the amount of space wouldn't do much to help.

I'm getting a bit tired of this reoccurring discussions about a height increase. There is no sense in doing this.

Since the foundation is already built, I don't think that they could increase the height.

The flow of heights will not be adjusted I think, but keep in mind that there will be other supertalls in lower Manhattan in the future. Maybe one that is higher than 1WTC.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a new building near Battery Park??? It looked like a 300-400m tower to me.

Conclusion the WTC complex will not keep his skyline architecture as a solid rule for the total image....

Just in looking at the ABU DHABI | WTC Abu Dhabi thread (my first time seeing it). I don't know if its been discussed but does anybody else see the similarities between 2WTC and these buildings- both designed by Foster. To me its uncanny.

As much as I would love to see this tower rise there, I'm afraid this is not a real proposal but done as some sort of study. This has been done several years ago. I really dig the design and hope to really something like it in lower manhattan someday.

hmm...but this building isn't higher than the wtc 1 :-(
I Think it's a big Chance...that wtc2 isn't yet built...so the can perhaps building in a few years a new megatall 1000m + that gives new Impulses to the wohle enviroment...and could be a Symbol of the start in a brighter future of the US...besides it would be a Horror for me, if the wtc1 would be in the future just one Tower of 400m + between several megtalls 1000m+...the Change is coming...one day.

in the pic above the wtc2 seems bigger than wtc1...in the second pic wtc1 is the big Boss...but how Long...417m Roof alititude is nothing Special anymore...no Superlative for the US anymore?
