Are you people seriously complaining about Fox being a tenant inside 2WTC? Quite possibly the dumbest complaints I have read on this forum. Who cares as long as 2WTC gets built!! 2WTC is going to be the real gem of this site. To have anyone take base inside is the greatest news!

None of us are complaining. I know people who would be appalled but they're not on this site. And I have made it clear that even if I don't always see eye to eye with Fox, I absolutely will support anyone who will be able to make this true architectural icon a reality at the soonest possible time. If that comes through Fox, I will be beyond thrilled to see WTC 2 be made a reality. That's most important for me... that WTC2 gets DONE!

I heard at CTBUH that this tower may now be developed, because the developers have found tenants. This Tower has the possibility to be even nicer than One World Trade Center in mu opinion.

That wouldn't take much, WTC 1 isn't very striking architecturally especially with the "spike" they stuck on top in the "bunker" that encloses the bottom.

I don't really like Fox much but if they will get the tower built, I don't really care if this becomes their HQ. The only thing that would make me absolutely loathe them is if they value-engineered the crap out of this tower to get it built.

I think people complaining were mainly put off by this paragraph:

Quote:
The building’s design was drawn up between 2006–2007 and is expected to change at least slightly if this deal moves forward—which the Times noted is far from certain. But if it does go through, the companies might select their own architect for changes. “Given that the foundation has been built, the two sides are assessing whether the structure can accommodate the changes they want for television studios,” reported the Times.

Of course if this is going to happen, makes me wonder who will occupy the current headquarters of 21st Century Fox and News Corp.: 1211 Avenue of the Americas after they move out?

A suggestion: How about just one of the New News Corp. or 21st Century Fox move into 200 Greenwich Street, while the other can stay at the former Celanese Building at 1211 Avenue of the Americas?

I'm sure that all party's involved realize the implications of changing too radically the appearance of this tower, especially the top, However, if this lease happens, i'm confident that Foster will be retained for the redesign, as i recall, four, (4) of the lower floors had extended floor to ceiling height, for possible use as trading floors anyway, so converting to studio use could be accomplished without disruption of the exterior curtain wall,

What i'm hoping for is a height increase, however slight, becouse in my opinion, this tower, in the end, Has to be taller than One

This century is kind of young. We still have 85 years left.

If they do end up changing anything, I hope it's to give the tower the extra 12 feet it needs to match the old 2WTC in height

+1

considering their obsession with symbolism I am baffled this isn't 12 feet taller.

Though in order to make the building itself as tall as the old one, they need to add 92 feet. Funny thing is, I always considered the fact that the building itself is 1 270 feet tall without the spire on top of it as a form of merciful euthanasia. If it were truly just 12 feet shorter my blood would be boiling seeing how close that would be - but still lower. 1 270 feet is easier to swallow, the closer you get to the desired height (while still being below it), the more the rage about a wasted opportunity grows. If something is far shorter one can try to convince himself/herself that the building was never intended to have comparable height to the original

The old 2 WTC was 1,362 feet. The new one will be 1,350.
