Holding my breath.

A Visit to the World Trade Center Showroom (Read more in link)
http://tribecacitizen.com/2015/04/27...nter-showroom/

Quote:
The folks at Silverstein Properties invited me to join a tour of the World Trade Center showroom on the 10th floor of 7 World Trade Center. There are exhibits not unlike you’d find at a museum telling the story of the area’s rebuilding—and terrific views of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub and down toward the 9/11 Memorial

Considering it's Bjarke Ingels/BIG, it might be cheap socialist Eurotrash with irregular window patterns, strange colors, and complete incompatibility with the World Trade Center complex or tenants 21st Century Fox/News Corporation.

If they can't keep Foster, at least commission Michael Hopkins, Robert A.M. Stern (he does modernist buildings as well), or HOK instead.

Bjork will hardly be designing some wacky "euro trash" ( as you most elegantly put it) for such esteemed and traditional/conservative media clients as Fox/News Corp. Whatever is built will be probably rather tame as to not impinge upon the quiet and solemn nature of the complex and I'm sure they will stipulate that in the contract. I am sure Stern would be far too dull for my tastes. I hope they keep this design of course. It is the only hot looking tower in the complex and the most daring. I am worried another pure box will be the replacement which would be a shame.

For some reason with Bjarke, I think what ever will be rising in the site, it will be cladded in white & glass.

It really seems cruel to save this one for last...but not long now!

Lol @ "Bjork."

I'd rather not have Stern, either.

Richard Rogers would be a nice choice. And even though it would never happen, I bet Tadao Ando would think of something brilliant.

If there's anyone who understands thoughtful design, and use of relevant context in design, its Bjarke. Calling his work eurotrash is an embarrassment. If anyone can provide an appropriate design that actually enhances the site more than the existing 2 WTC, it's Bjarke. I'd be sad to see this go, it's my favorite design of all the buildings, and has been since day 1. But maybe breathing some new life into a building whose design is a decade old wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

In a good design, 10 years is infancy.

agreed, but in a design that is supposed to be cutting edge and contemporary, 10 years is forever. I believe now that the entire memorial and complex is either built or under construction, except for 2WTC, it will be much easier to fully consider the context, given that you can now actually walk around the site and feel the mix of emotional sadness, and vibrancy of lower manhattan. For this reason, I think a redesign could be good, because it would much better account for its location and the general atmosphere than a building designed completely separate of the others while the complex was being planned.

I think Bjarke recognizes this is the commission of his life if he gets it, and would therefore design something worthy of replacing the existing design.

Having anxiety attacks of everyone even anticipating a redesign.

The best of the four(imo) and everyone wants it to change? No. Change the base and call it a day.

Rose rock is my favorite proposal, but with that reduced height and cladding, even I think it looks totally out of place.

How about just build the same f*cking tower?

I'm sorry for being upset but I've had it with the WTC site and all its disappointments.

I don't think he's necessarily gonna change it beyond a base change, anywho. That's the only thing that needs changing, and I'm sure doing something dramatically different would require way too much public approval to be a logical path for News corp to take.

Also Silverstein is the lease holder, if he finds the redesign distasteful he can always over rule fox and BIG.

Honestly, if the tower ended up different to what Foster envisioned for it I would lose all interest in the WTC construction. This is the pinnacle of the group; it needs the best design of all. They'd better not let some pesky tenants' last minute whims screw up this masterpiece, especially if the tenant is F(au)x News.

Foster's design is a masterpiece, however that doesn't mean Bjarke has to necessarily screw the tower up. It is indeed possible for him to come up with an equaly stunning design, or even a better design. We should give him the chance to show what he can produce
