NYC builds the most pathetic skyscrapers for a city that was supposed to be the greatest according to overweening New Yorkers who have never seen the beauty of a real city.

Omg. City-of-Platinum always excelled at being a pessimistic, yet very subtle, troll. Must've had a really bad day to play all his cards and get banned so quickly. There's an irony about complaining about the quality of NY architecture on a thread featuring one of the best supertall designs in decades lol

Agreed, it looks like City of Platinum got into a severe delirium today. We can only guess what substances he took, but I bet he takes them pretty regularily

Wait, so is a full tower redesign anticipated or just the base/podium?

I don't think the design can change too much as for the foundations for the current design is already built.

Exactly. The footprint is already there and is ready to go skyward as soon as construction resumes, following the prep work of course. The only aspects of the design they could modify are the height, floor to floor heights, amount of floors, the diamonds, the color of the cladding, etc... I really hope they keep the four diamonds though. They are the best feature of the building and pretty much the entire World Trade Center Complex. I would be more upset about that than the spire change at One WTC. I've grown to like all the Towers though. I think it will all come out great when it's all finished. Towers 1, 4, & 7 all came out great so I believe the rest will turn out great too.

Right, so the only thing they can really change easily is the exact thing no one here wants to see changed- the top.

Unless of course, they went through the effort of redoing the foundations.

Well, I wouldn't be too sure that they can't change the lower parts of the tower. The existing underground part of the tower certainly narrows down the choices a lot, but there might still be possible scenarios, where all forces on the existing foundation are engineered to be equal to the forces that the original design would produce. To determine whether this is the case, or whether it is truly impossible to alter the design the designers have to run rigorous computer simulations and wind tunnel tests. Unless these are done, there is no way of knowing just what the possibilities are

Would anyone have the rendering Otie made a while ago showing what the diamonds would look like if sized equally rather than not?

Hope they keep the Foster design alone. Best of the bunch. I still we should have gone for his competition proposal for the whole site. It would have really been something.

And, at 1776 ft to the roof, Kanto would have loved it! We can console ouselves with the fact that we have its brothers the Foster Tower and the Hermitage Towers with us today. That, and Liebskind's atrocious winning scheme (and those lifeless boxes that were supposed to 3, 4, 5, and 6 World Trade) was value engineered into oblivion and gave us the respectable, if not quite truly remarkable, One World Trade.

One wonders thay if they had setted on his more practical scheme, avoiding all these redesigns and delays, the whole project would have been finished by now. Really a missed opportunity. And all more cause for why Foster's design deserves to be built.

That design was a hot mess. As much as I find 1WTC slightly underwhelming, I'm well aware it could have been worse.

Not nearly as much of a hot mess as the latticework tower, ugh, NYC would have been ruined forever had that been built.

The current 1WTC looks fine from the angles where it resembles the old North Tower but the tapering looks awkward and the building doesn't transition well into the spire from the most extreme tapered angles.

What 1WTC really lacks is a twin, so hopefully 2WTC turns out to be a worthy neighbor.

That foster tower was a far more daring and distinctive design than the mediocre tower that exists today.

What mediocre tower? 1WTC? It's a decent building but could have been better.

The worst thing they could have done on the site was build towers that look like they're about to collapse
