I'm more sad that the Foster's design isn't getting built than the fact this one is... my prediction was correct though. This does NOT belong at the WTC. I don't care if it's a solid 1,340 footer.

It's not awful but not as good as the original. If we hadn't already seen stacked boxes styled skyscrapers then I might like it but it just looks like a worse City of Capitals from Moscow to me.

What exactly was wrong with the old design ? Why did they change it ?

The space wasn't enough for them.

As you can see in the video, and probably why the building is so boxy, the floor plan is quite open.

Sigh.

This tower looks mediocre from some angles and dog shit terrible from other angles. There is so much that's wrong with it. From the south looking north its passable but holy shit looking south at it from midtown is revolting. It doesn't fit the WTC it doesn't fit the lower manhattan skyline, and it doesn't fit NY. Build this shit somewhere else. Who in their right mind would tell Blarke Ingles that this is acceptable. They had perfection and replaced it with a laughing stock of a tower. And **** those downward facing news tickers. Get that petition going, we need to share it. This site should not be an experiment for some crazy unique architecture. This is the most important tower being built right now, and should not be played with like this.

I'm not a troll, but after this joke I wish they had rebuilt the twins... but now... In 2021 all is complete and the scar is healed in a strange way. 20 years...

The new tower gives more deference to 1 WTC with its setbacks and angling. What's worse is that this tower is a ******* mar on the skyline. It has no semblance of being 'strong' unlike its predecessor (on the skyline, at least). The flat roof at the cornerstone location of the campus is a travesty.
this looks SOOOO BAD.

Such a disappointment. Even though the Norman Foster design won't get built, I expected to see something much better than this pile of crap.

Sucks that if you go in the elevator to One World Observatory, you'll be reminded of the old design

BTW, there will probably be a slight decrease in height as well.

I LOVED the original design and renderings for 2 WTC. This is absolutely hideous! The original design was sleek and would have made a bold statement on the NYC skyline. The new design is blocky and looks like the inspiration for it was a kid's Lego set, or stair steps. Its unoriginal, uninspired and there's not enough glass on the entire planet to make it look any better. I'm utterly disgusted.

Kind of the opposite. The old tower was 1,270 with an open air 80 foot antenna. This one is 1,340 to a flat roof, almost like the old 2WTC.

The height and terraces are nice, but from a few angles it looks godawful.

Hopefully I don't get pelted with tomatoes for saying it, and I really do prefer the Foster design, but I want to see 2 built. I read the whole article, and there is still a lot of mixed emotions in this. But I'm coming around to it, and not hating on it nearly as much as on first look.

While I am sad the diamonds are gone I think the building fits while looking at it from the memorial. It looks odd from the outside looking in but I will take this to finish the site. Pissing and moaning is not going to change the design. They do not care what a handful of people think on this or any other forum. Fighting will not make any difference. Foster's 2 was by far my favorite and I still think this new one is the most interesting. I am sad it changed so much but we need to move on.

I am going to move on to construction because this it what this forum is for. The base of this is rectangle. It is not shaped like the foundations at all. How are they going to build this without tearing out the old foundations?

The top looks like a parapet?

You can actually see satelite dishes on the roof with Fox logos slapped on them.
