I just hope it looks a lot better than the renderings when it's completed.

Damn. From some angles it looks somewhat acceptable, but this design in general is just terrible. The Foster design looked iconic and would have wowed visitors to the world trade center. Now it looks boring.

um... the spires are gone in the recently updated picture of the official site and all of the renderings with 2WTC. Can't really think that they aren't...

Also Walpole is an insider so I'd imagine he knows.

I just find it odd because it hasn't been officially announced.

why would they announce the removal of such an iconic facet of the design? By sneakily removing them in the newest renderings, the ignorant will never know that the four spires existed in the first place.

This whole site is just one giant black eye on NYC.

When people look back and see how badly they cheaped out on such an important site, it should anger everyone.

Well yea! It angers me already and always has, no looking back needed.

I guess we are kind of spoiled though, the WTC is a major development with 2 400+ meter buildings, a 330+ meter building and a ~300 meter building. It's not *that* terrible.

I don't like it too.

But it's not that ugly. It fits ok with the other towers.

To me the WTC will now never be complete. I was promised what seemed to be an amazing vision of the new downtown and 9 years later, one of my least favorite architects and news outlets destroy that promise. Man, I don't ever think I'll like Mr. Ingels or Fox News. (Just my opinion)

I have to say, I'm having a great time reading all these freaked out comments.

It's a cool building, it's very 21st century and in a way more unusual and exciting than the previous design. And it's gonna happen!

Oh no,
It's not what i have expected at all. Never believed 4WTC would be my favorite WTC tower.
Was a 3WTC fan before the redesign. After that Two WTC was my favorite. Than the spire and base of One WTC changed and now Two WTC.

I tought BIG design would be more like his proposal in Vancouver. Cool and stylish but not fitting for the complex.
But his 2WTC is almost the most boring in the complex when viewed from east river, from where the complex should be most beautiful and interesting.

Beach + Howe tower in Vancouver

But it's more like the ugly Kuala Lumpur propsal. It tries to be the negative form of an existing landmark.

Kuala Lumpur proposal

I thought the new proposal for Two WTC would respond to the memorial site, but it seems it is avoiding it. The tower look most boring from there and leans towards One WTC.

Same here - and lets hope so.

The new design is far nicer and fresher than the last which was generic as could be (almost like 1WTC)... All these people complaining will be the ones that love it most in 5-10 years.

Do you all forget history so easily? Almost every great building in America was hated all the way up until completion.
