You know, despite my frustrations with Foster losing the job... I'm over it and moving on.

Apparently, I'm in the minority, but I do kind of like the new look and I'm sure when it's ultimately built it will change some people's minds.

By no means the Trade Center site is ruined forever and that the Terrorists had won. lol.

I'm just ecstatic we have a major corporation buying into the WTC complex that will get this tower ready to rise and move towards completion of this forever ongoing development.

The potential super tall towers of 125 Greenwich, 42 Trinity and possibly 5 WTC when the PA sells will make this area taller and denser anyway.

Wow, so just like that it's gone? As much as I love the WTC project I can't help but feel it won't be as historic anymore. They've taken almost every unique element from the whole project. With so many more amazing buildings going up in the city it's hard to believe that 2 and 3 WTC will have a large impact on New York like they could have. I hope I'm wrong but it's just what I feel now after seeing one of my favorite designs in the project get scrapped.

Well....

Why should the architectural dream of Murdoch be any better than the rest of crap he offers to millions of people every day.

That (Australian) mummy is more to blame for the messed up no-compromise- American-politics than anyone else.

If he thought he could afford it he'd build a 2500 feet skyscraper in the image of Ronald Reagan.

You get what you pay for.

And ratings show you pay for Rupert....

Congratulations.

But as for the architect. He's done a couple of projects in Copenhagen and they are fantastic. I guess much depends on the funding.

I said that I didn't like Fosters design, but this is also dissapointing. This spot deserves better.

But screw it, now midtwon is THE place, where everything is

Thought I'd share this old clip from a Discovery Documentary about rebuilding Ground Zero.

I also moved on from my frustration yesterday but regardless of the Foster design being canned, I cannot find anything attractive about the design. I hate it more every time I look at it, it just doesn't fit with the rest of the complex, if anything it makes it boring, it's like HY part 2.
I can't believe it but it feels worse than when they chopped 200 ft out of TV; at least we're still getting a masterpiece in TV with some improved features even, in my opinion.
The only compliment I can give the building, which the Vanity Fair article touched on, is that it'll be a great place to work in, it definitely looks more functional than Foster's design.
But again if they asked Foster to make those changes he could easily have done it.
Last thing I'm gonna say and I'm gonna put it to rest is about BIG, wasn't he the one who complained to Durst about building towers that look like "buildings" when he got the W57 job? Yet he built the buildingest building I can think of. Boxes on top of boxes. Really disappointed.
But like you said there's enough going on downtown that can makes us forget about 2WTC.

1 WTC never had a brilliant design? I wonder what gimmicks you expect in a skyscraper.

What ? did they had a better design that everybody loved before and they scrap it for the current one?

those early proposals where eyesores.

they had a better design for WTC2 that was exciting for many people, WTC1 did not have that. what part you did not understand ?

Not that but I think the current design is one hell of an architectural feat.

Agreed. 2 WTC used to be my favorite, but 1 is now.

Agree, 1WTC is my favorite also. I doubt this amateurish design by Ingels will ever be built, it's just too hideous. If the building has anything good about it, it would be it's functionality, having more impetus for people to congregate & interact, but that being said, aesthetically speaking it's just hideous. The base is too clumpy, & the shape is not pleasing to the eye. I'm sure something totally different will actually be built, given the site's track record of alterations.

What's worse, I think it would require the demolition of the current foundations. I don't think they could build such a fat tower of what was designed for the thinner elegant Foster design.

No, it actually won't require that much modification to the existing foundations. 2 WTC was a hefty building, especially at the base.

Hopefully a 2000 feet tower will happen in LM soon, that it distracts peoples eyes from this monster and medicore WTC complex. Also, my prayers go out to Shop to design a masterpiece 80 South Street tower. I so wanna make the WTC complex look like "just some buildings" now, then being a centerpiece of LM.

The WTC deserves to be a centerpiece. It's just one tower that ****ed it up though, the rest of the buildings are amazing.
