Maybe they could use Foster's design for 5WTC or 6WTC someday?

It won't have the same effect due to the change of location, but at least it gets built.

****, why couldn't Fox have them use this new design as 5WTC or something and just leave 2WTC alone.

Hell, I would be too if I was him. It's been 14 years and still the site isn't complete. It seems the old design for 2 WTC wasn't what the market wanted, so now that there is finally interest, Larry doesn't care what it takes just to get the site finished.

Larry wants to see the place complete before he runs out of time.

He has the money to build it, he has another similarly scaled project in china, so far that hasn't seen any halts or redesigns. Fact is he could build it, he could have built it back when it was first approved but he decided not to because it wasn't economically profitable.

I was reading this with the TV on the background with "Friends" on. Just as I finished reading your post I turned to the TV and there was one of those takes of the city they put between scenes, showing a view of the Brooklyn Bridge with the Twins on the background!!! That was reading your post and seeing that on the TV almost simultaneously!!!

The current complex is massive improvement.
They weren't featureless at all. They got many subtle and delicate features such as the gothic-like tridents at the bottom and top, the chanfered corners, the horizontal bands at the mechanichal levels or the vertical lines draw by the outer columns.

And the fact they were two, plus the way they were arranged, made them pretty unique and iconic besides their apparent simplicity. They were like a gigantic minimalistic sculpture, with a very poweful image, that changed depending on the angle you saw them.

But I do think that the current complex is an improvement at street level, better integrated with the grid of the city.

Seems like it is more calm now, but this redesign revolutioned the forum, more than 20 pages or 400 posts since the new design was made public, just yesterday.

The 2wtc design was one of, if not the greatest, glass tower of all time. This is HORRENDOUS. New York is absolutely killing it right now and then this happens........ this is a sad day for NYC.

Really don't understand what people see in the new design, to me it looks like a small child made a block tower using the bigger blocks for the base and the smaller blocks for the top. As the child stood up he/she accidentally pushed it over. Then they probably knocked it down because it was a disgrace to all his other creations.

Can someone do a photoshop of what the complex would look like if they used Foster's 2WTC design as 5WTC lol

Or BIG's 2WTC design as 5WTC, while 2WTC is left alone.

Exactly. It looks hideously amateurish, & it looks as if it's about to collapse at any moment. Not the best visual for this site. It looks seriously fragile & unstable. Not to mention ugly. Foster's at least had symmetry & grace, & a quiet strength. I watched the architect's presentation, & it's a lot of fancy talk but it's just that. Talk. The tower he designed is just generic & dull from the front angle & ugly & unstable looking from the other side.

432 Park Ave is beautiful in comparaison of 2wtc .
There is better than 432 Park ave like nordstorm tower or 30 hudson yards
but i prefer it over 2wtc.
2 wtc new design is a joke .Even a kid of 5 years can do better.
These architects need to go back to school and learn how to draw
normal building.

432 Park is way better than this. For its height it has one of the most subtle presences. There is an elegance to the fact it uses perfect squares in its facade and (as it appears from street level) unbroken vertical lines straight to the top, a characteristic which screams 'New York.'

This on the other hand is just a fat jumbled mess with no redeeming qualities. Just made for space and shifted around a little to make it "interesting."
And it doesn't even succeed in that.

I doubt that this is the final design because how will the WTC standards for the core, elevator and staircase safety work for this design.

Yeah, no way the NYPD will approve this design.

Honestly, this design for the complex wasn't bad. It's main emphasis was on tower 1, and the other buildings were just very nice glass towers, all similar to each other.

I feel like when Tower 1 got reduced to something more ordinary, they felt the need to pick it up with the rest of the towers.
Now they've failed. Tower 4 succeeded in it's own right because it was never meant to be anything fancy. Tower 3 lost it's bracing, and those spires. Tower 2 turned from an elegant sleek and wonderful tower, into something hideous.
Tower 1 , while still nice, was watered down, even in it's current form. The spire, the base, everything.

Tower 1 is nice, but even then it's hard to accept it, the lobby is so massive and closed in.Barely light, and no windows..

All in all, the current complex, it's okay, but it's a shame to know what could have been

I agree I highly doubt the NYPD will approve this building as depicted in the renderings; it looks too flimsy to be up to the anti-terrorism standards required in this day & age. If the past is any guide on this site, the final design will be very different that the renderings show now.

If you are talking about those open stair and elevators seen on the animations an renders, they said they wanted a more open and flexible building, those are for a everyday use to help integrate the levels in the buildings, to make it more like those large open plan, more horizontal buildings typical of tech companies such as google. Obviuosly they can't do that on Manhattan, so they did a vertical version of it with interconecting floors.

But the core still exist, (you can see it in the video, when they show the loby) and it will host the main elevators and the emergency staircases, so the safety wouldn't be a problem.
