I thing the biggest thing bugging me is the way it slopes toward's 1WTC and the memorial. It would be slightly better if it had quite a bit more deference towards the site and not "turning its back" on it.

Not necessarily. The tenancy deal with News Corp is not set in stone (not yet), and with the news that Murdoch is retiring this could potentially affect the negotiations.

In all honestly while I don't mind News Corp moving into 2WTC, I frankly don't buy the argument that the footprint of the building isn't compatible for TV studios. It's a pretty damn fat building, just as big as the current News Corp building.

I am sorry but this is an atrocity. I waited 15 years for the diamond design to go up as the last center piece of the WTC complex, and now we get this thing?!?! What a waste of my 15 years!!!!!

I can and I can't believe they redesign this building, and the design came out 2007 where are you getting 15 years from?

From some angles it doesn't look so terrible. One thing that I think is good about this redesign is that it tapers away from the transportation hub. The hub doesn't look as cramped as it did set between two vertical towers.

In addition to Ghery's Beekman being superimposed over 3WTC in the video as noted earlier, the spacing of Towers 3 and 4 are wrong in the screencap with the woman jogging, as they ought to be adjacent. This redesign will still obstruct the view of 1WTC from the Brooklyn Bridge perspective. These errors suggest that the odd single pair of spires included on the west face of 3WTC are wrong too.

There is the potential of another "thing" at the site.

It may look it, but the design doesn't taper away from the transit hub at all. Still totally flat on that side.

Jagged edges are really not WTC.

The reason why we can't have twins is because 3 and 4 WTC are still part of this complex. All 4 buildings are supposed to be standing together; different, but united. When 1 and 2 are twins of each other nobody will ever see 3 and 4 as part of the same complex and they'll simply be just another two buildings, which is not what the complex was designed to be. Now can we please stop asking for more twin towers, because that idea will never happen, no matter how much we want it to.

Is this disaster just a cost savings?

What was Fosters WTC2 projected cost vs this BOXbox?

F**k you BIG!!

If they were serious architects, they would have said: "Build Fosters design. It's the best option for this site."
After a few moments to think about it and calm down, I have to admitt, BIGs tower is not a bad design at all, in general.
Even at this specific site, it would be ok, if it were the first version presented right back from the start.
But as things happend, the first one was not BIGs, but a better one, the one by Foster.
And Fosters is way better, it's a jewl of architecture, the one in a thousand.
That's the point of my madness: Not a bad design, but the replacement of a Masterpiece with something worse in comparison.

it's like greenland center in dalian, the new design is amazing, but the first design was so much better. it happens so often that the most amazing designs get lost for something that just doesn't compare, i am just happy we get something of the same size

I saw this trending on Facebook and BIG actually has a page and posted about it, with a headline something like "New York says YES in my backyard". Literally 80% of the comments were critical of the design, and none of them had seen the original design.

People were slightly more informed on CNN, but most still didn't like the tower.

There's no denying the elegance of the steep roof of the "good" design; however, how much square footage is the new massive design supposed to have?
