But as things happend, the first one was not BIGs, but a better one, the one by Foster.
And Fosters is way better, it's a jewl of architecture, the one in a thousand.
That's the point of my madness: Not a bad design, but the replacement of a Masterpiece with something worse in comparison.

The more I see it the more I like it especially after I watched the short video clip about it now I understand the design much better now and I feel like its the perfect replacement for fosters original design they designed it to have multiple looks from the memorial and from Tribeca

A few other opinions:

* Some feel that the new 2WTC design with the cantilevers at its north side could bring back bad memories of when the original WTC Twin Towers collapsed on 9/11/2001.

* If they thought that a redesign was really necessary, then they could have just launched a competition for a brand-new design for 2WTC (which would obviously have been a waste of time), instead of hiring a single architect who could potentially unleash something terrible.

* I think people would be reacting the same way if the Bjarke Ingels' design for 2WTC were the original design instead of Norman Foster design. Maybe people would like the Bjarke Ingels design if it were developed in some other major city.

* I think we'll be seeing a repeat of the Park51/"Ground Zero Mosque" controversy from a few years back with the new 2WTC design.

I think it's a nice design, but not as a replacement for Foster's 2WTC.

Great... it has streaming digital news banners underneath the overhangs so Fox News can spread their propaganda to the people below.

From the video.

No, this is not a private development. The WTC is owned by a government, only leased to Silverstein, whose job is to run, maintain (and rebuild) the WTC for said government. This is public land, and is owned by the people of NY and NJ.

And this building is a jagged pile of ####. Look at this. This is ####ing horrible. It has the proportions of a pile of blocks stacked by a 3 year old.

I like the BIG design from certain angles, and the vertical gardens especially, however, Foster's design was just unique. I would not call it a disaster, but rather a shame.

I would think its much more, no? I thought they were having trouble getting tenants for 2 WTC though. Not that I'm terribly familiar with the real estate market and demand and what not.

The new 2 WTC will have roughly the same amount at ~2.8 million square feet.

Ugh... disgusting. The old design was much more iconic. This looks like a piece of crap.

Extremely disappointing, I can't even believe this is real.
If the whole project of the 4 new skyscrapers was in the middle East or China they'd build it exactly the same, even better. They changed the design of WTC1, the spire looks so oldfashioned, the base of WTC1 was changed, the design of WTC3 was changed and then the height was shortened. Now this. This is the worst of them all. New York, you're not the most magical city on Earth anymore. So, so disappointed!

Same. Still upset over the change but what can we do at this point but learn to love it?

Highly unlikely. They've been working on this design for over a year, and have a tight construction schedule.

I think the new design is better. The old one looks too 1990's postmodern, and the new one is simply better for the skyline, restores the Twins from some angles, and is better at street level.

BS. Just see Ping Ann Financial Center. What a shame. I guess you can take China off that magical city list.
