I think the new design is better. The old one looks too 1990's postmodern, and the new one is simply better for the skyline, restores the Twins from some angles, and is better at street level.
Do you have inside information on this? If you know they've been working on it for a year and you know the construction schedule (which you obviously must if you know it's tight) please tell us where you are getting your information.

I blame FOX News for guaranteeing that the WTC complex is finally completed!

I disagree. A lot of people hated the Twin Towers when they were first built. But as time went on people grew to love them and they became a symbol of our country, and the signature of the New York skyline.

They only became a symbol after they were destroyed. They were always ugly and almost universally reviled. A lot of people don't admit that because of the tragedy, but the original twin towers were two of the worst skyscrapers ever built.

I still find them ugly. They were simple, modernist boxes. But they were unique because they were twins. They had such an imposing silhouette in the city's skyline and that's what made them special. If there was just one of them built and the other one never even envisioned, I'm sure it would be (generally) hated, or at least not loved by the people. The new design is that, just not one simple modernist box, but few of them.

It's like the late NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt. The Twin Towers are better admired in death than in life.

What I remember is most people are not architecture buffs and recognized them as a symbol, not too many people went too deep into the architectural style. They were plain, but the imposing nature of them made them beautiful. I agree that only one of them would not have had the same effect. I think what made them beautiful was the verticality of them. They were huge imposing buildings with no setbacks. The way the floors were hidden also made them looks even taller. They had the new york gritty look to them and it worked.

Another tower at that prime location between 1 and 2 WTC makes a lot more sense than some low rise unfunded art center.

I always loved them (WTC twins) even before I became a skyscraper fan... And I was just a kid and later when they were destroyed a young man living in Finland.

They were loved because they were just so tremendous monumental structures. And yes a double.

The twin towers are really a different story. I think they became iconic for the fact that there were two of them and that they were massive in size and height.

I don't like this new design at all. I agree with those that say they should have just built a twin for 1wtc. This building looks way too clutzy & busy. Hopefully the final design won't look like this.

I hope the design will change.
But i thank unfortunately chance of getting a new design are slim because fox want it like that.It unfortunate because it will kill Nyc skyline forever
It not in harmony with freedom tower and te rest of the city.Nyc deserve better than this.

Why not get inspired by theses following design:
1-Shanghai tower :http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=391698
2- KL118 Tower : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1239285
3-Seoul Lotte World Tower :http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=474259
4-Wuhan greenland center: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1261427
Or Wilshire grand in Los Angeles.

Honestly There not enough shapes like that in us.There are some but they are rare.We have a culture of building boxy building.
Surprisingly most of nice design in asia are designed by american or british architect. Why we can t have a better architecture.
