On another matter, I find this tower to be magnificent.

So stop whining.
If this is what is considered cutting edge architecture in 2015, then I guess I am a philistine.

Such respect includes appreciation for free speech, discourages hateful lies and rhetoric, and acknowledges Jesus encouraged people to act by free will rather than coercion. Thus I suggest you rethink your approach.

I genuinely apologize if this upsets anyone (most of you know I don't make controversial posts just for the sake of stirring things up), but I thought it was necessary to illustrate why some people find this design not just frustrating and graceless, but outright offensive.

When I first saw the Southern view of the new design, this is immediately what jumped to my mind. These new towers are meant to symbolize strength as the Twins did; they're not meant to be reminders of that day (we have a memorial that serves as a poignant reflection on absence), and what they absolutely should not do, is to vividly recall images of collapse.

I can understand how Bjarke, a Dane, might not have immediately drawn this parallel right away. He has smart ideas and I can appreciate his function-over-form mentality (these towers do not have to be beautiful). I think he just got a too lost in his avant garde design principles to notice something staring him right in the face.

But I cannot for the life of me understand how no one at News Corp, whose companies replayed the images of the Twins collapsing for a decade straight, noticed this and balked. But I guess it's fitting that the company that made its bones commoditizing the destruction of the World Trade Center should set up shop in the new one, and that their headquarters should serve as a physical reminder of that pain for the foreseeable future.

"Never forget," indeed.

Sorry, but not a valid excuse. Only in the rarest of circumstances would a skyscraper design be pulled off the shelf versus designed for the specific location, so you don't get this commission without an understanding of the context of the site. If you do ignore that context as an architect then your credentials are worth rubbish.

Here's the rub - The degree that this concept is avant garde is, IMO, so negligible as to defy consideration. This is not industry-changing innovation.

Sad thought - They, or the developers/owners, may actually see the idea as part of the brand appeal. A polarizing aspect that keeps the item in the public eye, for better or for worse, until we all grow numb to the issue.

I don't believe that, but I wouldn't be surprised, either.

Nobody thinks it looks like a collapsing building. Because it doesn't. You're clutching at straws. Also, the WTC didn't topple over, it collapsed down upon itself. So the comparison is not there. Not to mention you managed to avoid highlighting the straight vertical edge of the new design that faces the memorial. If stepped sides are supposed to evoke a collapsing tower, than a straight, vertical edge surely evokes strength and solidarity by comparison, no?

Personally I think any hint at a collapsing or unstable structure is too much. I don't see how the one vertical side of the tower make up for the other three.

It's also a very unappealing design, not my taste at all. To each there own.

I love this new tower.

Also, it's way better than the Lame groundscraper that NewsCorp built for its Euro HQ in London.

I'm sure that our friends in the UK would like to have this tower and the global HQ.

Nobody !? How would you know ?... That is exactly what comes in to my mind too (!)... In fact that's all I can think of this tower, and how unimaginably offensive it is to all who has had to suffer because of the terrorist acts... Oh yeah and also how ugly it looks.

And we are not the only ones...

"But maybe it's that public scrutiny that BIG should fear most. The wounds of 9/11 are still fresh. Is a tower that looks like it's slightly leaning to one side really what New Yorkers want on the site of the World Trade Center's destruction?"

This is a very, very unappealing design indeed, but I don't see how this new tower is offensive or shows lack of respect for the site. Not everything designed for the site has to resemble the twin towers or meant to symbolize strength, there is already a memorial designed for this purpose.
Glass towers doesn't symbolize strength either.

Well, Fox News is moving into the complex, so it all makes sense in the end

Bjarke' tower destroying the conplex?? I think that is overreaction, Big time. I admit, despite losing my beloved Foster Tower, I honestly think Bjarkes will be amazing when it's all said and done. I love the enormity that this tower brings to the whole complex. Lots of interesting things to admire with this tower plus I think the quality of the materials will be key, but I have no doubt that it will be. I for one is moving on and looking forward to see this rise and complete this forever ongoing WTC site.

from the last pic I see, that new wtc2 tower is somehow connected in design with WFC towers... of course I also think, that Froster design will be better... but... we have, that we have...
