It's the hideous cantilever design that completely ruins this. Value engineer out that nonsensical architectural feature, and you might end up with a fairly decent looking skyscraper. I agree with others who feel this building looks unstable despite its mass, and almost looks as if it is falling over. Not a pretty image for ANY site, much less the World Trade Center.

Sometimes I think the new 2 WTC isn't so bad and that everyone is overreacting. But then I see the renderings again and I go back to thinking it's pretty bad. BUT I do think it will look pretty cool from the memorial at least.

If built, this building will be the most hated in New York... For sure.

Here's the proof:

I actually like the looks of the building and that view. It kinda provides a transition from the straight sides of WTC3 to the tapered sides of WTC1. Still not my favorite but at least looking at it from that view I think it kind of fits into the overall look of the complex.

Looks like a crinkle frie from that angle.

It's horrible. It's an off-balance stack of boxes inspired by a three-year-old playing with the boxes the toys came in.

BIG should see this. Not very inspiring to say the least, and very much giving off a wrong impression.

I will say that I like the way it looks from Brooklyn which was one of my complaints about Foster's design. I felt it was turning it's back on Brooklyn the way it looked.

If it makes you feel better, I think the point of the orientation was it was facing the memorial (back when we had that crazy idea of the descending spiral/deference to the footprint of the twins) more than it was intentionally turning its back on Brooklyn.

This is not a U.S. decision. That is not how it works here. It is a private decision between companies and individuals. A decision I do not like. If I interpreted your post correctly...

I think it looks good. I actually like the the views from Hoboken and Brooklyn Bridge Park more on the new tower than Foster's tower.

I'll agree.

Foster's tower was a bit unfair to Brooklyn.

The severe "slice" in Foster's tower helped manage that disparity. I realize many people like the height fact because of the Twins but the angles that really showcase the verticality also tend to be the ones that accentuate the gap between 1 & 2 WTC.

This view is the perspective I think BIG is trying to sell us on. The tower appears to bow or defer to 1WTC. The fundamental flaw in this philosophy is that if the tower is going to be "bowing" anywhere, it should be towards the memorial, not 1WTC, and this adorable architectural kernel loses its charm when nearly every other angle is cringeworthy.

The tower is too big. It hogs way too much of the skyline. At certain angles, it will completely block the view of 1WTC. 2WTC should be a silent, reserved partner-in-crime to 1WTC. This one barges into the room like your drunk uncle, telling bad jokes as you try to mourn the loss of your grandfather. This design might work if it was a smaller tower, but not one of this size or importance.

Lol!you are so desirous of being spiritual and funny that you don't even realize your contradiction:is the tower bowing and deferring to 1 WTC or is it too big, blocking the view, hogging the skyline,"barging into the room"!??
What you write does not have any sense;for the rest,if you perform in some play on Broadway,a one man show in Vegas or even a comic performance on Time Square plaza, just let me know!..

I'm pretty sure Foster's design blocked 1 WTC from certain angles also.

Wow! someone please tell me this is some sort of joke? This new design is complete trash, ruined it. This whole site has just been nothing but bad change after bad change. Such a shame.
