Must have been a hell of a job, carving this out of the bedrock.

excellent pictures. they show how much work it really is to prepare for the foundations.
people always babble about how long it takes. but just by looking at those photos you can clearly see the challenge.

Sorry to be a stickler but the building is 1358 feet (414m high) with 78 floors.

Great pics by the way

On the bottom of the big hole, is that the bedrock? If so, what kind of stone is it? I always thought Manhattan island had a bedrock of the dark gray with sparkling silvery glints in it known as "Manhattan Mica Schist." Any geologists or mineralogists here?

It is bedrock. As for what type, I have no idea.

If I recall my geology, NYC (Manhattan) sits on a bed of "pink" Granite. And from my understanding is that it is some of the densest and sturdiest granite on Earth.

ALSO~!!!

Does anyone have similar pics of WTC1?

AND BTW I think this tower is far more origina than WTC1

I really love this building except that I wish it was a but taller for the sake of paying tribute to the original towers. The floor plate of the highest floor should have been at least at 1370 Feet with the spire taking it up to 1420+ or more.

Manhattan has a bedrock that consists of quartzite, dolostone, marble, and schist. Manhattan bedrock has gone through extreme metamorphism (Except for Dolostone, which is a sedimentary rock) which makes it unbelievably tough. While I could be wrong, that bedrock looks a lot like dolostone. If it is, no worry, it can take the weight.

Looking at that lobby design I can see that the emergency escape stair cases lead straight to the outside. Well if a mad bomber wanted to bypass the security scanners could they not just come in through the exits?
