Did you show it to them in the context of the rest of the complex?

The big building is interesting, but doesn't fit.

Okay. Just want to say for the record. As redneck as the original statement was, the amount of likes my post received may just prove a point.

Whoa. Sweet page layout/graphic. Kudos to the now-doomed National Geographic web presence.

Am I liberal, or am I trolling? Either way, it's related to 2WTC.

BIG's proposal is not a design its simply a building with no class, its BIG piece of crap. Norman Foster had a design, a design that fit the site fit the city of New York and was worthy of being part of the world trade center complex. Every time I look at BIG's design I can see anything I like about it and quite frankly it looks worse and worse the more I think about it. Smith and Gill should have been contracted and we would have a design probably even better than Norman Foster's.

I did and even put the two designs next to each other as a whole complex. We even watched BIGs video along with the original rendering of the complex. Everyone seemed to like BIG's design much more.

I could see this being popular with architecture students, especially undergrads. It's a popular idea in my studio to follow the nearly meme-like concept that LE MORE IS BETTER trend that this building follows, and instead straying away from the corny/pretentious yet realistic quote stating,

"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."

There is so much that can be taken away from this design to improve it. The cantilevers, the boxes, the news scrawl on the underside of the boxes, the sky gardens, the podium crashing into the ground. It's just an entire mess of a building with too much going on.

I feel like the floor space issue that FOX news is going on about could've been resolved by upping the floor count on the large podium to provide more of the larger floor plans while keeping the upper portion of the building intact. All of this would've kept the original foundation intact, saving time, effort and resources and an unnecessary design overhaul.

I apologize for the angsty rant, but it's annoying to see a problem that could've been easily remedied with much less effort be replaced by a design lauded by the LE MORE IS BETTER people.

That being said, it has grown on me, and that video that was posted presented it well. Obviously I still prefer the Foster design by far.

Well it sort of make sense - architecture students like it, people who never studied architecture complain about it endlessly...

The crazy mess of a building is obviously not going to be a future classic or bring about more like it, but an experimentation in innovation and progressiveness is due for NYC!. The problem is the building's ass. Yes, that's right, it's rear end. That hopelessly dull flat backside of the tower. The suit and tie backside and the hip futuristic front side, are incompatible as a whole and the whole thing begins to look like a pastiche that is designed to offend fewer people. If you're going to do a building, do it right. No two-faced cowardly buildings please, they always end up being mistakes. This is why the Foster design would have been the right choice here at this site. It was a more balanced honest tower that showed it's most interesting side to the WTC site, where most people will be looking at it from. It was not trying to be gimmicky on one side and sober and sombre on the other, which this tower obviously is doing. A compromise that may well land this tower in the folly category/ missed opportunity for decades to come. Let's hope that the ever so open minded NY'er learns to love Bjork's whimsical creation just as they learnt to love the domineering and post-apocalyptic TWINS!
