I think 1,270 is the latest figure.

While my initial reaction was negative at a potential height cut, I think it works a lot better with the complex at that height.

Even months after trying to digest this building, I can't still swallow it. What a loss for the WTC complex and fro NYC

The shorter the better for this tower, if this tower grows to 1340' it will just completely destroy the already dysfunctional southern Manhattan skyline. Really I can't stand this tower and i can't stand its owners, the whole project is just a disgrace.

The worst is what's become of 3 WTC.

Good design(s) stripped to the bone.

Clearly, you can't read.

And no one is talking about "1 Undershaft". So the comparison is unnecessary.

As a resident of NYC, I have to say, your post is the antithesis of any reason why we should turn away this design. Sure, we look deep enough into anything around the WTC and we can be scared. But it's only an issue in the short term whilst people who experienced 9/11 still remember it. For most people, in 5 years, and 9/11 memories that are as much of a stretch as that, won't be an issue. I think building one of these buildings with as much emotion as you want is destructive, as we would be so limited. Why construct skyscrapers at all? Or Buildings at all? Because they all remind us of 9/11.

Can't lie, as I look at it more, contrary to others, I realize more and more that there isn't really an angle I dislike the building from. We have to respect the building for what it accomplishes that most other buildings don't. It's dynamism. It's essentially a completely new building from every angle, and I think that's tremendous and a game changer, to question the idea of symmetry. Sure there are examples of other buildings that do something similar, but not in the same way as 2WTC

So it will get these 'bars' or whatever these are against the glass.
Couldn't it just be the same blue-ish glass as the other towers have?
The other renders show it more blending in.

What was wrong with the old design? It looked amazing... this new shorter tower is nice but shouldn't they build both towers back to their original height? The old towers were twins at the same height and that will never be the same now. Plus I preferred the old design... sigh.

WOW! It's been 14 years and you still didn't know this is what the world trade center looks like and you're on a skyscraper forum? Holy shit. I'm speechless. Life no longer makes sense.

Also, you're wrong the old design sucks, you're just stubborn and nostalgic. No one likes the old WTC, ask anyone without an emotional connection to the old WTC and they'll say it sucked. I love them as symbols of NYC, but look at skyline pics. NYC looks much more modern, iconic, and relevant than it did with those. The old WTC perpetually held this city in the 60s

Just picture News Corps current building, 1211 6th Avenue, stacked on top of each other.

Hahaha, this is no magnum opus. Its a dumbed down budget design by an increasingly mediocre architect. These models only reinforce that. This is a lame post modernist stack of boxes. It would have been special in 1985. Not 2015.

Mediocre? Kinda harsh don't ya think? I don't think it's that bad, but could be way better of course.

This building should have never been redesigned. The old design was very original and the new design is just too simple for this day and age.

Simplicity isnt the problem. This design is awkward and ugly and doesnt at all fit into the rest of the complex. Everything about this design is wrong. A classy box would fit better than this hulking trash heap.

I agree that this new design fits poorly with the other towers. But that is probably alsof because we got used to the old design and renders.

I think it would fit well in Hudson Yards.

Yeah one of the reasons this design gets so much hate is because everyone was looking forward to Foster's design, then all of a sudden it just gets scrapped. If this was the initial design for the new 2WTC there probably wouldn't be as much hate.
